(also tried to get it as close as possible to the screenused B.muir helmet)

definatly the hardest part untill now! i was a little scared all the time to mess it up, but i think it came out quite ok!

for the tear and nose area i used a small brush.

UPDATE

today i painted the mouth section and the left tube stripes...

first the mouth section.

i wanted to recreate the ook of the Dave M. helmet but for the mouth section i changed the plan because i don´t like the "roundish" look of the original helmet. so i decided to stick with the Brian R. paint pattern...

now, the hardest part and the part i think about for month now.

i tried to copy the tube stripes from stickers i bought some time ago on another sticker to get a negative copy with the actual stripes cutted out with a skalpell...

Posted Image

attached the negative sticker and painted over it with Humbrol Enamel Paint midnight blue #15

Posted Image

unfortunatly i´m not that happy with how it came out. maybe i will repaint it by hand one day...

so far so good, that´s what the helmet looks right now...

i hope i will find some more time to finish this helmet soon.

untill then i will think of another, saver method to paint the remaining black outlines for the grey areas...

i appreciate all inputs, thanks gang!

looks awesome mate.

Yeah, those old tube stripes are a pain.

when i painted mine i just marked the spacing with a small dot and then with a coin that has roughly the same curve and a pencil i drew a light curved line and freehanded over it with a brush and humbrol.

some of my stripes were wobbly and one or two were of slightly different thickness but that just adds to the character.

Don't mind if I borrow some methods when I get around to painting my own...

i really hope so!

that´s whatfor these build-up threads are made for, learn from others successes and faults...

it´s all about sharing, right?

( man, i love that sentence! )

Tubestripes take guts (for me anyway) to paint. Looks great so far!

If you (or anyone else) needs a "negative" in order to paint tube stripes, please let me know. I would be happy to use some extra vinyl and cut some out. Since you do not care about the color, I can use extra stuff that I have, and then just remove the stripes, leaving the negative.
