Hallo gang.

I have reverse my weathering 3 times.

From a bit yellow/light sand, to more soot/black, to now light/dark sand brown.

But what is the the accurate weathering look.

I have to show many pictures here, to show what i´m talking about.

First my 3 trys, in 1, 2, 3 version.

1.

Now back the the boys from anh.

The way i see it, there are different weathering suits in anh.

I will here show a few versions.

Here you see a very black/maby dark brown too weathering.

Here you see a more smooth soot/light black-grey weathering, whit a very small tone of light sand colours.

And here you see a more light/dark brown weathering (look at he´s back).

Posted Image

Then there is some there, only have done there weathering 50% done.

Clean parts here and there.

Posted Image

My suit is more in the brown style weathering.

Like BB´s.

One guy aka Jens, have made a good weathering.

Where he have all the colours together.

Posted Image

So guys, here in the end.

What is what, and what is the right anh weathering look.

Are there eny out there there know, what they put on them back then.

Is so, maby we can find out the right colours.

Cheers, can´t wait to hear what you guys think out there.

And what do you think about my weathering 1, 2, 3 best, and what can be done e.g "better".

I know some of the anh suits are the same, and sometimes the suit look light weathering.

Sometimes dark, its just the light/sun... or something.

I think #3 is the best. As for ANH styles If your going for exact replication just try to do what you see in the pictures whether its that sooty look or the canary look. As anal as I want to get I try not to think to hard about it. Personally im not going for exact screen replication. Im going to go for the real world brown/grey yellowish look. When I did all my desert training in socal and during my tour in the big sandbox i saw how things got worn and how sand, dirt and grime leaves a wierd grayish brown layer on black stuff and a greyish yellow on light colors.

i agree. number three really does look good. the sooty one looks nice as well but in the end i wasnt sure to pick between number one or three. maybe a combination of one and three??? but for all three of them the weathering is gorgeous

I remember a post on this forum somewere about someone knowing what was used on the ANH 1977 armour. If anyone can find this thread should post Rolf the link.

Im sure it stated that a mix of Creosote and sand was used. Now Creosote is a brown ,black colour and being a liquid you can vary the tone and shade of the weathering.

I think your mark three reflects the look that creosote would have left. The problem that we all find from looking at the old photos is the non consistent colour of them all. Some are super saturated and others washed out with white, all they can truly offer is the amount of weathering from suit to suit.

Anyway that all said stick with three mate ,i think we all would like to see it in the all together against that famous grey wall of yours.

Admit it Rolf...you just like to paint.

I like #1 the best, but would like to have seen it with a little bit more dark (like in #3) for more contrast.

You got me there Tom.

Yeah i´m a painter.

For those there dont know it, i have been painting walls and canvas for for over 20.

Ever since i was a kid.

I do graffiti and pop art, and love it.

So i´m used to get better and better, all the time.

Some story about the armors, i guess

I´m out of the woodland pro.

But i have order a new box.

When i get it here, i think i will make a mix of my 1, 2, 3.

Add a bit more light sand colours, grey, black.

But no over kill, i will still have the armor white over it.

Cheers

hey rolf,

all of your weathering looks very cool.

personally i like the 1 mixed up with 3 best...

BUT

unfortunatly i believe that none of the original screenused armors ever had such a great weathering with so much love for details.

the lack of time and money, together with the harsh weather conditions while shooting in tunisia makes me believe they weren´t up for details but just for getting these tatooine shoots done.

i doubt any of the weathering were even two-colored.

in most of the screenpictures the weathering looks just black-grey-brownish.

sad but true! at least this is what i can judge from the pictures!

I have clean the suit down for number 4 weathering go.

No big deal, i like to work on this suit.

And i wanna do is as good as i can.

You see, i dont have 10 different suits.

My hobby is only the anh troops.

I got a anh TK TM (not assembel yet), and this anh TM sandtrooper.

I will not start on new suit, before this is done.

When i paint my back pack, i paint all the different plastic parts whit humbrol.

So they got the same surface.

Also the white hips, i paint white humbrol.

I have been thinking for some time, to paint my TM sand trooper too white humbrol.

And i will show you why.

Here you see the a clean TM shoulder part vs. the white humbrol painted back pack bottle top.

It looks more anh old/screen used/real to me, and the weathering its much easyer to make on the paint surface then on the glossy hips.

Here is the shot

I have been in contact with the guinness book of records, and they say that they will have soon a section for you my friend.

Joking apart ,that would be one giant step you would be taking in painting your TM armour there would be no turning back from that move. You must have thought long and hard about this big Decision and have confidence in your skills to go ahead with it.

Thanks mate, yeah it have been a long progress.

But what the ****, i dont work on many suits only this one.

And want it to be, as good as it can bee.

I have not been painting the suit white yet.

What do you think, coool or what.

In a way i think the paint, will give it a even more accurate look to it

Hers my TE lid painted and weathered with just pastals rubbed in.

Posted Image

lovely TE helmet mate .

As we all know the TE/TE2 is in white matt hips, and have to be painted.

The TM is in thick milky white glossy hips, and dont need white paint.

I like the TM for that.

But the glossy hips is harder to weathering, but easyer if the suit/helmet is painted.

Here you see the glossy hips shoulder vs. the painted white hips cap.

Here a anh helmet, also painted.

Posted Image

Is it cool to paint it

See you.

Cheers
