shortimer52
Do you guys use any thing to seal the dirt on your costume? I used that Woodland Scenic’s' Earth Colors, was thinking that I might want to seal it using some kind of clear coat. Hate for it to rub off or get rained on. Some of it has rubed off a little. Good idea or bad?
TD-1536
After the Woodland Scenics, I used Fuller's Earth to give it real character. That was both both adhered by and sealed with un-scented hairspray.
shortimer52
hairspray? I would think it would come off easy. But I can see where you would have to reapply it on often.
RoCKo
i coulnd´t believe the hairspray sealing also, but it seals better than i imagined! hairspray really does the trick!
freakengine
Hairspray will do the job. There are also fixatives that can be purchased at most art supply stores that will do the job too. Just avoid the ones labeled "workable fixative."
TD-4510
hair spray is just watered down clear lacquer, works great! I used to use it on my pastel drawings as well, to help seal the colors and keep the drawing from being smudged. Try it!
Grand Moff Niko
Will Hairspray yellow over time? Who here used this technique? I would love to know the durability of this technique. How long it last’s? Years?
RoCKo
i started weathering my helmet almost two years ago and my suit followed round about a half year later! there is no yellowing on my helmet or suit! actually you could wash down the weathering and hairspray at any time! i can´t say it for sure, but i don´t think that hairspray does any harm to your suit... SethB6025
I've never had any trouble with the hairspray. I put a handback under running water to test out the durability and there was no noticeable change unless you rubbed at it. Even then, it was difficult to remove. tk-d
so would the hairspray work in old blighty(thats the uk) where it rain alot
SethB6025
I'd avoid standing in the rain, but a brief drizzle or getting caught for a moment shouldn't ruin it. If you do get wet avoid rubbing at the armor, or onto other objects as this will disturb your weathering.
