Millar007
Question - the CRL notes the tube stripes must be painted for any level...but I thought I read elsewhere that was only for PO and SWAT, not basic 501st approval. I have decals on my current TK I am converting, and have no designs at this time to apply for PO or SWAT - is the painting a requirement? If painting IS needed for basic CRL approval, has anyone created/sells a template, or any other tips/tricks??
Airborne Trooper
Pretty sure decals are fine for basic approval. IMO, painting is still the way to go. You can get the templates at trooperbay.com. Best trick I can tell you is to paint it white first then paint it blue. It'll keep the paint from running. kman
You can also get the TrooperBay templates from their eBay store. For small orders, shipping is sometimes cheaper from the eBay store instead of direct.
bigwam
Which templates are the correct? Handpainted-style or TD-Sand?
Airborne Trooper
Go with the hand painted. If you are emulating a particular trooper, make sure you count the stripes and note the proper placement!
Millar007
But is hand-painting them NECESSARY for basic approval? CRL seem's to indicate that's the case...
bigwam
Ok, Handpainted. But what is the style from "TD-Sand"?
berkal
Decals are accepted for basic 501st approval. The MEPD requires "hand painted" for deployment. Although I don't see the difference between using a paint effect decal and painting in a template.
Airborne Trooper
Because they didn't use decals in the movie
