Gladius
1) Klagenfurt Austria As I was visiting my parents who live in Austria, and I couldnt go to the event in Rome I took the occoasion to visit Klagenfurt instead , what was about on the way home and a good chance meet the austrian garrison friends and also the rebel legion members. As it was the very first trooping with the new finished armor and gear, I was quite a bit nervous and wondering how it will be. We were meeting and dressing up quite some minutes away from the meetingpoint and the city arkaden where we were also going. Kinda glassy modern shopping mile, very very crowded. Well after dressing there was only the puton of the bucket and climbing down "some" stairs. After a short wile I was already steaming inside and I couldnt see anything anymore. And it was only about 15 degrees outside. Only! Well we had to wait a bit and I was wondering how I will stand this the hole day. Took off again the helmet once to clean the eyes, but short after it it was quite as before. Walking along streets with traffic. I was a bit feared.. thank god there was a Leia in front of me with a white dress so I was able to follow a shade at least. But later on all went better and I got kinda used to it. There were some spaces out from the bucket where I was able to see something and later on it all was clearing up. In between we had some rain. All was very nicely and good organized, and in the evening we were having a good dinner and lot of beers. Thank god the restaurant was just at next street 8-). The day after I had to drive home for arround 7 hours back to my place through Austria and Germany by going through Munich. In the end a very good experience for bigger events like Legoland Germany, as there were also some things to get repaired later (T21 misc parts and backpack top bottle). Gladius
2) Zurich There is a comic & filmexhibit in Zurich, every 6 months. As we do not have a lot of big events in the country regularly, it is a good recruiting platform for us and for showing a presence. Right at start I ripped some strap off unwillingly and I was happy to have repairstuff with me like the UHU contact glue wich showed to be best so far for the TM ABS for straps. In a bit of a hurry, everything went pretty cool later and we spent a fine time. The cosplayers were missing as they had a con in another city. Next time again there will be a costume competition. Beeing happy frst that nothing broke or got lost, I made a mishandling with my backpack so it fell on ground and the mortartube broke off, but I was able to repair it. Gladius
3) After the first experiences with trooping and doing repairs I went to that marvellous event with a lot easier feeling, though I haven't experienced yet how it is to troop with higher temperatures, between 20 or 30 degrees. But to my surprise that went a lot better than trooping outside when it is rather cold, about 13 degrees or so. Nevertheless it already started for the first deadline, beeing already a bit on the limit, with other repairs on the strapping, wich turned out funny as all the glue, because it didnt work, remained on the undersuit and on certain parts a helping cool lady had to paint me black.. at lunchtime it went on with repairs so I had to spend about 2 to 3 hours only with repairs & wait for drying, this with an already wet armor from sweat. We had very good time having dinners in the evening with the german lads & ladies. And finally I've met MEPD guys (Micki with Son, Rico from Belgium and Felice) in person when finally having the armor aswell, ready to troop. Friday started with a not starting car, as after all the mess and the troop and beeing tired I forgot to turn of the lights. But the cool helping german guys helped me out. And in the evening I spent some racing session on the motorway, just to fill up a bit the car's battery. On Saturday there were a lot more - in Total 7 - Sandtroopers present, what gave a good occasion to do some patrol and that strengthened friendships. Extremly cool when You troop with Sandies when You do not know who is in the undersuit, and it turns out - when You lift the buckets - that its the same guys You talked to when You were on work-in-progress state or do not even have the armor yet ! : - ) Sadly until the parade we lost eachother, but someone made a cool group foto of us with and without bucket. The parade I found breathtaking and going under the skin. Cool crowd, and a lot of kids reaching out their hands while passing them. Really amazing! Sunday I trooped only half of the day as I got more and more a bit exhausted and wanted to have a chance to see at least some bits of the park This was the best so far! Gladius
4) Strasswalchen Austria July 19th 2014 Well.... it was my first experience in trooping with temperatures above 30°.. It started pretty fine in later morning. No troubles with armor or strapping or the gun. 1 Day before I sat in my appartment with only checking and repairing. Good. But well.. It was really hot. A bit too hot. I normally like doing the parade with the friends. But at about half past 15h I was only happy that it had ended. Boiling and glowing alive. After the event we were allowed to go to the swimming pools next to the location for free and have some grilled meat and good salad. In the village there was marketparty, right on foot of the hotel we stayed. Wow 8-) drink drink drink.. Pic by Reinhard Schober:
Allerg3n
Great trooping, Michael! I can empathize somewhat with the heat - I'm almost done with my armor and I still don't have any fans installed. I put my armor on for 10 minutes in my apartment the other day and busted into a sweat in no time. Now I've got 4 fans on the way to help keep me cool. :-) Looks like you did a spectacular job. Hope it was fun!

Gladius
Thank You! :-) Well yeah, above 30 degrees, one fan in the helmet - thats how I have it - is not that enough anymore. Been fun though yeah. Got used to heating up while Dressing after the first times. Just take it slow. And be early enough on the location so You can dress on piece by piece and relax. Gladius
6) John Williams Concert, directed by Ludwig Wicki - 21st century Symphony Orchestra, MONTREUX Honestly first I didnt know so well who John Williams is , to my shame, until I saw the concert lineup. Superman, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, Schindler's List, E.T., Star Wars. Wow! And I've never been in Montreux , where the jazzfestival is taking place. So driving 2hours with car I was gently surprised about this village at lake geneva. Almost a little Monaco. Lots of cars that looked like it is a place for the rich. And no chance to park my one :-/ but after all I had time to take a walk at the lakeside and go to the famous freddy mercury statue. Montreux @the lake geneva We were gathering up in the Jazzcafe, wich is close to the Auditorium Strawinski (the concert hall), had some drink & starter and were warmly welcomed by the Auditorium's Eventmanager, had a visit through the rooms & halls and had a chance also to listen to a first check of the orchestra practising, and then got lot of pizza :-) The plan was to start at 19h when the first visitors come. We even had a rehearsal as our group was planned for a short intermezzo in the 2nd part of the concert, after end of ET and start of Star Wars, where they played 4 songs in total. And it was absolutely overwhelming and amazing. We did our short Job well. Marched into the hall in almost complete dark and safety-checked the orchestra's director's stick about beeing a terrorweapon or not and stepped aside right after it, to listen to imperial march, the main theme, Across the stars and Duel of the Fate as encore with a great great chorus. Absolutely worth all time and energy spent. I'm not gona forget this evening so fast. Pic by Patric Bebie:
Gladius
7) Birthday surprise visit, 28th January 2015. The guy & guests very liked it. We got lined up to surprise a big sciencefiction fan. In fact this guy has his job also in science and I think he's gona do a museum about spacetravel and so on from Jules Verne to present. He has some extrordinary stuff at home and on one of his walls are pics of him with people like Neil Armstrong or the head of Nasa. Very very cool. Gladius
8 ) PLAY Convention in Modena Italy 11-04-2015 With excitement I had the occasion for visiting another country wich has a Garrison. Italy! It was also for meeting a great Legion friend from whom I had purchased some costumegoods & accessoires. Me and my girlfriend departed 10th april and had about 6hours driving south direction Milano and then turn direction Bologna wich is about 35km's away from Modena. The site & con contained about 3 big halls of shows & a lot of places to play card- and boardgames and also some merchandising. I had also the occasion to meet Alberto from the Italy Garrison, TD9009. It was a fantastic experience. A lot of fun and wonderful hospitality. I really have a bit the blues going back to bizz as usual. This is Alberto & me:
