I'd suggest if you haven't yet trimmed, don't! If it's too noticeable then t could impede on your application. Get swat done first, hang your certificate, then trim away! Just my advice

You'll see that the majority of troopers (especially in the UKG) are replicating this detail. Looking at the location of the tape, it appears to have been to hold the shoulder bell up but failed!

Make a small hollow slit with a sharp blade across the top of the crack. Loctite glue (or similar) glue onto and around the crack. Cut out a square of old t-shirt or cloth and apply on top of the glued area and allow to dry. Put more glue on top of the cloth square and leave to dry. You will not get a crack in that area again.
