TD2802
Finally got my E-11 conversion kit for my Hasbro and was wondering when it comes time to paint, is it better to use a glossy or satin finish? I checked some of the older threads and there didn't seem to be any consensus. Thanks
iconoclasta_88
I used the flat black for mine on the manin body, and some satin for a few parts... afterwards I gave it a weathering/metalized job on top, trying to mimic real submachine guns. I like it when it looks more real life gun than sci fi gun... but thats me. Saludos
Wolf
i used a flat black and then used some sealer that made it sorta shiney
DirtyBoy
i prefer the look of the flat black as well. here is a pic of an original sterling...
Grit
i used glos but i am going to wether it o top of that so will probs go matish after word
TD2802
Appreciate the feedback guys . I'm leaning towards a weathered metal finish too so may combine matt and gloss on certain parts.
Quartermaster
I too prefer the Flat Black. My E-11 is flat black with a dry rubbing of silver on top to give it that metalized look. I paint and weather my pack builds the same way. The flat black gives it that dusty, sand blasted look as opposed to the shiny look.
Caomhanach
Satin - gives a bit of an oily look to it without it being too much so... Add in the weathering and away you go...
Plastic Fury
Flat black here with the brushed silver to give it the worn, "metalized" look.
Daetrin
I'd suggest flat as well. I've never seen a glossy weapon in military use, and I don't believe the original sterlings were gloss either.
moonwalker
In my opinion, satin gives a more "realistic" look, with of course a light weathering. When you Google "Sterling l2a3", most of them seem to be in a kind of satin finish, or something between flat and satin. But glossy ? No way ! (And it depends on the armor going with it too... I guess if you ask here that the blaster will go with a TD armor, so yes, flat black should be better; damages by the sand, burnt etc... But for a TK, satin would probably look better !) But of course,, you should paint it like you prefer
TD2802
Great input all It just might boil down to each individual's preference it seems. I like the oiled metallic look of a satin finish myself but again, having been pointed out as sandies, the wear and tear of being in a harsh environment calls for a weathered treatment, so that's the route I'll go with. Tyranus
I used satin on mine: http://sterlingblasterconversion.blogspot.com/
KevVader
Matte, then drybrush some thinned Testors Steel or Aluminum on the edges.
dav'ika
what about gunmetal black? Pandatrooper did his t-21 that way. looked good!!
pandatrooper
Satin or textured finish for E-11's since they are based on Sterlings.
dav'ika
Ok reel stupid question. Textured???? We're not talkin' stucco here..
pandatrooper
Some real Sterlings I have seen have the bumpy finish. This can be simulated with overspray and light coats to add texture. Not stucco, just not smooth like a glass finish.

Not stucco, just not smooth like a glass finish. My E11 (hasbro mod) has a textured finish. I did it cause I saw a real deactivated Sterling SMG E11 with that kind of texture. This is what I mean (don't remember whose E11 this is btw). Mine: Deactivated SMG: Saludos
sandtrooper
Juan, that's a very sweet E11 build. Looks like it's made of metal not plastic. Well done!
Darth Voorhees
I used Krylon black primer, which is flast and then used krylons matte finish over it to get a satin like look. I then dry brush it with silver very lightly..it gives it a metallic feel to it.
TD2802
I went with a satin look but may do a light dusting of matte to tone down the sheen a bit. Here's a couple of quick pics. Sorry for the crappy quality.
TD9323
Looks great! Good job on the weathering. Any plans to add the coiled wires?
