FIVE
Not that dumb... I asked the same thing. I have mine on a separate strap that is hooked to the top frame of my pack. So I put my pack on and "throw" the pouch over my shoulder. It's an adjustable strap so I can "raise" or "lower" it as needs be.

FIVE
I wouldn't be much of a DL if I weren't willing to drop everything, go outside, and snap a couple of pics with my iPhone. This is on my "old" pack, but it's the same thing I'll do on my new one. That help?

FIVE
I could push and ask what about the lower pouch though You mean the one on your belt? I just loop it onto my belt. It is a leather one though so has bigger loops than the MP-40 ones.

iconoclasta_88
Just to add up to what Noel already said... The shoulder pouches on ANH were attached to the pack strap. This can explain why troopers without a pack done have the shoulder pouch either. Me, I have it in a leather loop around my shoulder, and then attach it to the pack strap with industrial velcro. It works fine for me, but it is not 100% accurate. Saludos.

Since I don't yet have a pack, I've been trying to determine a means of wearing the pouches even without the pack. Has anyone been able to do this? Or am I better off going without until I have a pack? Thanks!
iconoclasta_88
You could do that the way I have mine set up. -Run a strap through the pouch loops and close it to form a "circle". -Put the strap around your shoulder. -Either fix the pouch to the strap and the strap to your armor... -Or, fix the pouch to your chest plate with industrial velcro. I used to do it that way before fixing it to the backpack strap, and I can tell you it works even if you are not wearing the pack. This system wil be helpful with or without the pack. I have the IMA mp40 canvas pouch, and it works just fine. Velcro can always be removed from the chestplate. Hope it helps. Saludos.
DirtyBoy
I have a loop attached to the pouch and then a seperate strap that snaps to my suspender system. Works with pack on or off
tedyer
Thanks guys. I'll give the option of attaching the loop to the armor a try. Do you find that it's fairly sturdy? Rick- hope to be trooping with you before long!
