ajax407
I'm going to be getting an ATA kit soon and was wondering, since it dosnt come all glossy and white like ap or fx does anyone thing the weathering would look a bit more gritty with out the glossy white? I asked "Mr. ATA" himself that very same question a few days ago and he suggests painting it white first. He says it would be too flat otherwise. Billhag
.....or you could try wet 'n' dry sanding it to a nice smooooth finish and polish that baby up Works like a charm for me and I know thet our very own Rolf TD-252 is on his 2nd set of TE2 and he's done the same for both of them Hope this helps
GosHawk
Billhag, how do I go about doing that? What type of sand paper?
Billhag
Billhag, how do I go about doing that? What type of sand paper? Eric I started off with 600 grit wet 'n' dry, then some 1200 and 2000. Once all the parts were wet sanded I then polished every thing up. Its hard bloody work but I'm happy with the result. It reminds me of an old AP, not super shiney more like a dull gloss. Here's the polish that I use, either one works just fine T-Cut Color Fast Scratch Remover - White Farecla Scratch Remover Paste Hope this helps mate

GosHawk
hey again. Im just getting the supplies to sand and polish however it looks like that t-cut and Farecla Scratch Remover Paste are only sold in the UK. What would be the US equivalent? Or should I just order over seas?

GosHawk
Take some photo's of the ATA armor. Never saw ATA armor B4. Thanks! there are tons of ata build threads on the fisd forums. So does anyone know a good polish I can get here in the states that's the equivilent as t-cut?
Sands
I'm to dirty to be on the fisd forums. I would not fit in. This is my home and I'm never moving!
FIVE
Painting it first also gives you more control in making it dirty. I'd be worried the craft paints would "soak in" too quickly on unpainted HIPS. The paint gives you a barrier.
Aideon
I find myself asking the same question as Goshawk. Does anyone know of a good commercially available polish in the US that works well with the wet-sanding method?
GosHawk
You know after i couldn't find any polish I gave up and just washed my armor and weathers it useing folk art paint. And to my supprise it turned out really well. I just love the dull look.
