Hi gang :) .

I´m about to assemble a new back pack.

So far, i have the MH/SB/Charlie kit.

The new UK siphon, and Mike H radio on my way.

The Radio used in ANH was a bit dark blue/grey a like:

Mike H, have made it 100% accurate.

And paint it in the right tone of colours:

My question come here:

We know the back packs probably, was paint whit the blue humbrol # 47.

But what about the rest of it.

We normal paint it black, i use the # 21 black.

But if the radio, are more dark blue/grey a like.

Maybe the dark a like parts was not painted black, but dark grey # ?.

What do you think/know, before i start paining mine here.

Hey Bro.. here is what I think. But its just an opinion and no fact.

It looks like the real radio has two colors on it. A dark blueish grayish color for the faceplate, and a black leatherlike cover for the main body...

From the picture I cant tell for sure if Mike used this two colors in his radios, but Im pretty sure that whatever he did, was the correct thing cause... well, we know how Mike works.

In this picture, I think its looks like the two colors scheme is showing. A tone of gray for the faceplate, and a tone of darker gray black for the main body.

So, anyway, I agree with ppl that have said in other threads that the radio was probably uses as it was, and just attached to the packs due to needing to meet a deadline and production budgets, but the colors and letters dont appear in film cause of technical stuff...

So, anyway, what I would do If I had a radio from Mike would be: Use it as it is for now. And if in the future a better reference, fact or even a real Sonix Victory 75 appears, you could always modify it.

But thats me.

Saludos!

on these new radios, the sides are painted flat black and the face is the blue-ish/gray color. I flirted with the idea of adding vinyl but it seemed to be more trouble than it's worth, not to mention the stuff I have it a bit thicker than whatever they used and would probably look better without it. It would've also added additional logistical issues with attaching those side "ears" that the straps ran through.

Indeed the radio looks grey at the front and the sides some kind of black leather to me (like iconoclasta_88 already mentioned ) ! I'm almost pretty sure it is some sort of leather type !

Also i don't see srews at the front of the original radio ! When looking to some ANH pics it look like some radio's on the backpacks don't have the plug ins on the left side also ! So who knows ? Maybe they used for some packs only the frontplate ?!

Anyway bro, you are on the way to gonna make a **** fine backpack again  !! I'm happy with your last version though B) !!

No matter what you do this is going to be another awsome pack build, yours always

bloody are :D

My personal opinon is that they painted or sprayed the radios black. I know that we

haven't got 100% clear photos to work off but most of the ones we have got seem

to indicate that the face plate seemed to be all one colour.I think that some of the all

black tuner dails seems to back this up as well.

I know the packs were very slap-dash and seemed to be thown together but I don't

think they would have left the radio as is so that everybody could see that it was a

cheap Japanese transistor radio when they were trying to portray technology from

a galaxy far, far away :D

Rolf, I don't envy you mate, Mike as made one the most amazing reproduction props

that I have ever seen B) , and I feel the same as you "How can I spoil something

that is just so perfect" :( . But, you may have to bite the bullet and weather this

magnificent piece in your pursuit of perfection and screen accuracy.

It a toughy mate

Thanks for your reply Billy :) .

In a way i also think they, spray paint them all over black.

Because the dial, also seems black to me.

And i can´t see, the white text on the ANH radios too.

Only the air filter/sergeant pack, have a 50% black dial...

But to i´m 100% sure, so to then, i will keep it as it is.

No matter what, this new Mike H radio is mind blowing accurate.
