My first time weathering....

Well, here is a test piece that I did for weathering. I don't have any artistic ability....never painted anything, so this was a new adventure for me. I am not 100% happy with the look, I feel that it needs a little bit more of a dusty appearance, but overall for my first try, I was happy with the outcome. Please let me know what you think, pros and cons. I welcome any suggestions. Thanks! Jonathan

Its a good start, I would add some Fuller's Earth. That will tone down the difference between the paint and the armor. Trial and error are your friend. If you're not happy wash it clean and try again. I know I did that a number of times on my suits.

Yep, I think you're doing very well so far.

I'd use a wadded up paper towel to apply very light dabs of sand-colored paint to what you have to get a sandier appearance. Just dab the towel into the paint, the wipe most of it off onto a piece of cardboard before applying it. You can also use the lighter paint to lighten areas that you feel you went too dark on.

Finally add a little fullers earth until you're happy with it.

You'd be better off buying it from a movie supply expendables retailer like http://www.issprops.com/expendablesstor ... lers+earth . That way you can order it by color and be pretty sure different batches will match if you need more later.

The best setup is a weathering kit, but it goes for a whopping $135. It's expensive but it's great if you've got several people chipping in, or plan to go into the biz. It can be found at the same place.

I would recommend http://www.cineshoppe.com/fullers1.htm. I ordered from them and shipping was amazingly quick and they have the colors that you need. I'd recommend the natural and the slate gray. If I remember right, I ended up getting their 3 lb container and probably should have gone with the smaller one. Just my $0.02.
