wannab
What is the best way to attach the mic tips to a TE helm? I notice that they don't fit flush -- kinda wobbly and lots of air space behind the tips. Any tips appreciated. Doug
theGreatSot
On all three of the helmets that I have (2 APs and one TM) the aerators or hovi mic tips don't sit flush. Just tighten the screw as tight as possible and you shouldn't have any problems. I've never had one come loose on me.
wannab
Mine don't have screws. Are you saying to screwinto the resin tips from inside the helmet, wouldn't that break the tips? I was assuming some sort of glue method? Maybe push the dimpled area from behind (kind of thin there) so it meets the tips better? RoCKo
you should drill a hole slightly smaller than the screw you´re going to use! that will keep the mic tip from bursting when you screw it on the helmet....
TK-459
That's what I did, flattened out the area around the hole a bit. It doesn't sit perfectly flush, but it still holds well. Just drill a small pilot hole in the back of the tip, screw in a screw, and cut off the head. I also added a bit of Devcon to keep the screw from turning. wannab
Good ideas. Any idea how far I can screw into the mic before it punches through? Doug
TK-459
not too far. Mine went through but you can't really see it.
bearden6521
I drilled my tips out and glued them on with a big dab of devcon. I used TD-1536's website tutorial to mount speakers in the helmets.

keith
don't worry too much if the screw goes all the way through. one of the real helmets i've seen had screws/threaded rod that had punched through and could be seen through the mesh screens. keith
RoCKo
second that!
TD-4510
I carefully removed the screen and drilled straight through. Then I inserted a 1 inch machine screw from the front side. After the screw was in I superglued the tip a small amount and replaced the screen. It looked great and it never came loose. I never worried about the screw head being visible in the mic tip. wannab
Hey Clutch, tried that -- turns out they were just a couple of teases.
wannab
Thanks everyone for the tips (no pun intended). I think I'm going to try the glueing a flathead bolt method so I won't have to drill into the tips. Any suggestions as far as a glue for this method? clutch
Make sure you rough up the sides to be joined with sandpaper first. I'd hate for one to pop off.
