  1. I don't know what makes them different, but the paint I linked was one of the easier spray paints I've used. Just do thin, quick coats. Reapply while the first coat is still tacky (I think, you'd need to read the instructions). And it turned out beautiful. obviously, there's always a risk of spray paint globbing on a bit, but if you shake it enough and you clean the nozzle when not using it, it works pretty well. You can always sand down anything you don't like and coat again.
  2. FYI - the above paint goes on ultra smooth and glossy. It looks awesome freshly painted. I almost didn't dirty it up after painting.
  3. Are you thinking about completely cleaning it up, to clean white, and then dirtying it up again? If so, I'd recommend Appliance White Spray Paint. This is what I used on mine after I finished modding it. Then I used burnt umber to dirty it up. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Specialty-12-oz-Epoxy-Gloss-White-Appliance-Spray-Paint-7881830/202056394
  4. If you mod the armor with bondo and whatnot, you'll be repainting it anyway. I primed mine and then used glossy white appliance paint. Like paint you'd use for a refrigerator. So you'll probably end up repainting whatever helmet you got as well. Just to make sure they match.
  5. I made a TD with an FX. I used a lot of bondo and paint to fix some things, but in the end, it looked pretty nice. I think if I had replaced the chest with a different vendor, it would have done wonders, but I ended up cutting the bottom edge a bit to shape it better and it looked pretty good. The major changes I made were adding shims around the Ab and Kidney and filling in the ridges on the legs where the overlapped plastic connected. I filled those with bondo, and then added extra cover strips and it looked a TON better.
  6. I wouldn't mind seeing pics of this.
  7. And take your time! Use lots of blue painters tape to test fit everything, many times. Cut conservatively!! You can always trim more if you think you need to.
  8. Honestly, I'd start on the abdomen. Get the crotch, abs, butt and kidney to fit as well as possible. Then the back and chest. After that, do your shoulders, biceps, and then forearms. Then finally, do the thighs and shins. For me, that's the best way. Start from center (the abdomen) and then work your way out from there.
  9. Yeah, I would think you need to order some new tube stripes. They are usually only about a pencil's width away from the cheek bone. The knee looks good to me though.
  10. I have an issue, not with the pauldron as much (although, I feel your pain), but with my shoulder pouch. I like it high, but then it causes me to not be able to look left very far. #TDProblems.
  11. I fear this will turn into a 'Tastes Great, Less FIlling' kind of discussion, but I prefer it low. More menacing to me.
  12. I ended up adding shims to both sides, leaving the seam down the middle. When I get my armor out next, I'll post a pic of how it turned out. Definitely worth the effort.
  13. I've been trying to figure out which trooper used the cheese grater hand guards. I've seen the black pauldron Roadblock trooper with them, but I'm not sure who else has it.
  14. I threw my first pack together for submission in a couple of hours total. Two days including drying time for the paint. I actually had the seed trays from Crashman, but I could have easily used some disposable tupperware. I've since replaced the Radio and Cistern with parts from the Chief (Dirty Boy). And removed the tape I had holding it all together. I used a single wide electrical box and a pipe from an old vacuum cleaner, a radio shack project box, lysol wipes, tupperware pudding cups from ebay, a faucet cover I had, an old first aid kit with various plastic lids glued on, another vaccum pipe, a soup to-go container from a restaurant, a lid from some bondo resin I had, and the typical PVC for the frame. Oh, and packpack straps from my son's old backpack. all in all, I think I paid less than $30 because I was able to use things laying around the house. The biggest cost at this point was the primer and paint.
  15. What do y'all do to protect your backpack during transport? I've gone to a few troops where I've had to put my backpack on top of my armor box in the back of the car, but it's not really secure. Not sure what else to do apart from crafting a custom box to keep it safe.
  16. I expect that the troopers we see in R1 will be what we see in ANH. Probably some new ones just because (shadow troopers anyone?), but seeing Sandies would be awesome. Especially if they are on another planet. We'll have to create a unit or something for them. But I'm not getting my hopes up. I bet they'll just be Heavy Weapons Troopers.
  17. I was checking out some info on Rogue One and I found this little article talking about some concept art. http://makingstarwars.net/2015/06/star-wars-rogue-one-concept-art-glimpsed-eludes-to-80s-classic-film/ Particularly insteresting was: Could these stormtroopers be TDs carrying T-21s? Or maybe just HWTs? Let's hope we get some more love on the big screen in 2016.
  18. Better yet, buy a different pair of cheaper black boots, and sell your TK boots!
  19. 4" for short range radar, 5" or greater for long range radar. The fact that most troopers on Tatooine were issued the 4" dish is probably why they couldn't find the droids. I think this explains the mysterious suffocation of the supply officer in Mos Eisley. At least that's my fan boy explanation.
