  1. I would LOVE to do this with my boy, but he's 11 going on 12 in July and is too big for Walt's kits and too small for an adult kit. I wish there was an alternative kit out there. He's not a big kid at all. In fact he's a beanpole at around 75-78 pounds. I like the idea for those of us with kiddos. I know I'm not MEPD deployed, but if I may add an idea........... As far as the ID thing goes, I would think for uniformity sake, why not have the adult's approved TD-number with a "c" suffix on it? For instance when I get approved, I'd be TD-2311. If my boy got a kit done, TKc-2311. The "c" being for Cadet. Just a thought.
  2. Any other thoughts? Ideas? I've since shimmed the sides to close the gaps. Still need to mod the chest piece.
  3. I think I saw this unit being used by a builder on Krayt Clan. He uses it to make a glove with those buttons on the palm for Tusken and Jawa sounds. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.
  4. What spray paint colors/brands should I pick up to complete a pack? Black and a blue of some kind. Just looking for specifics.
  5. Has anyone rigged something that could be used to add blaster sounds with a Hyperfirm? Seeing how it's a solid piece of rubber, I don't think anything can be installed in it, but onto it? Thoughts, ideas?
  6. I've since removed some of the tube stripes since they went to far forward on the "jowels" per my GML's input.
  7. I'd like to encourage anyone who is nervous about hand painting to try it. If I can do it, anyone can. It's not masterpiece by any stretch, but it's mine and with that comes a sense of accomplishment. Check it out in my progress thread, comments welcome: http://forum.mepd.net/index.php?showtopic=13201
  8. I was totally nervous to hand paint my bucket, but I used the templates from Trooperbay and while there were leaks here and there, it was really easy to clean up with toothpicks, q-tips and some paint thinner.
  9. Awesome!! What are the exact brands/colors of spraypaint I need for this?
  10. Looking good! I just got my brown box from Dirty Boy yesterday, so I'm definitely looking for tutorial/build info. Please keep documenting your steps!!!
  11. Got my bucket done for the most part. Painted and weathered (still need to get white paint for screws). I'll be the first one to admit, I'm no painter but I wanted the hand painted look. Any feed back would be great.
  12. They could be trimmed a bit a I suppose. I'm using acrylics (Pandatrooper Tutorial) and real dirt application.
  13. No trooper in particular. I'm not hitting too hard with weathering just yet. Figured it's easier to add then take off. I'm using a hybrid approach of PandaTroopers tutorial and the use of real dirt/sand.
  14. Feedback? Thoughts? I'm going to trim up the chest plate as soon as I can get access to a sealing iron to put a return edge and I'll be shimming and re-positioning the side rivets.
  15. I haven't had a chance to pick up a hobby iron to re-do the chest plate, but I got a neckseal, boots and a DLT-19 since my last post. I got some weathering done as well.
  16. Interesting read. I like what's happening with the SW universe these days. This past year I came back to the Legion after about a 11 or so years away and I think it's a perfect time for it. A lot has changed since I was in the Legion last. Being a Star Wars nerd is actually "cool" now. So I'm excited to be part of this awesome club with all the great things happening. We watch Rebels, I'm looking to get my boy a costume, I'm going to Celebration (we're Disney nerds too, so it's perfect) and Ep VI is coming out. So as far as I'm concerned, it's a great time to be a fan. A lot is riding on the new movie though. If it's good, it will be a major score for all of us, the franchise and the mythos you write about. I'm stoked. I'm ready.
  17. Is there an actual measurement from the bottom of the "pecs" to the apex of the bottom edge curve??
  18. I actually do have the two snaps on the sides, I guess I need a third in the center. As to the chest plate, yes, it does need to be trimmed. I think I need a heat sealing iron to make the return edge right? That part makes me a bit nervous. Seems like it could go really wrong if I mess it up.
  19. Welcome back Bluey. I'm sort of in the same boat myself so I can relate. Was part of the 501st back in the 2002-03 time frame, but when the war started I was still active duty USMC. So needless to say got a bit distracted. Even more so with the birth of my son after I returned home. I ended up doing other things for many years. This past year I've come back to costuming and I'm looking forward to completing my Sandy. Soooooooo much has changed and there are so many more resources now on doing this correctly. Sounds like you were the type of person who contributed to that.
  20. Here's where I'm at so far on my kit. I'm not liking the sides and will be redoing the ab/kidney plate rivets when I get more. Let me know what you think:
  21. Can anyone help me find Pandtrooper's pack tutorial? I have searched the forum, but I'm not seeing it.
  22. This is a necro-post but i just wanted to tack on a question I have about the sniper plate. I'm putting on a Trooperbay sniper plate, and I want to know what should be the sniper plate thickness when I trim it? Any help would be great, thanks!
