  1. Word is that a little white silicon sealant works wonders without the need for paint.
  2. No problem. They probably bring in loads of stock in early autumn and just let them sell out. Maybe later this year they'll stock them again.
  3. I'm in the LA area and these faucet covers were nowhere to be found because it never really freezes. I ended up mail ordering mine here: http://plumbing.hardwarestore.com/52-299-f...ver-113857.aspx
  4. I used the American Accents Iris blue (satin finish) and I think it looks great. I know photos often lie, but here's a pic of the painted boxes during assembly. and another of my stinger in progress (different lighting-same paint).
  5. Daetrin, that's probably the best I've seen FX thighs look. Did you trim their tops or something?
  6. Congratulations!!! Smoke a couple of cubans for me!
  7. I used an Alvin Ice Tube - it's a tube that's used to store drawings or drafting or whatever for transport. It's very light and very strong. I just slit it down one side, tightened it up, drilled and riveted it, then painted it black.
  8. I've been working on adding police "chatter" to my radio box. I added the speaker when I built the pack and ran a wire up to my stow-n-go. I added a radio shack amp there along with a small MP3 player. Now I just have to finish working up the sounds. I'm planning on putting it on random with dispatch communications, some probe droid transmission noises, some static, some SW button hits and several long tracks of silence. We'll see how it works out. I also wired the radio box speaker to one of the switches that came with Mike and Seth's kit so someone behind me can kill the sound if need be.
  9. Check out this link for a visual comparison of RT-Mod and a screen-accurate suit: http://www.rt-mod.com/comp%20thumbs%20page.html
  10. Yeah, that's a great deal! I'm thinking of buying a few extras. At the bottom of the auction it states they're "mixed colors and shades". I wonder if he just means differing shades of tan.
  11. What, no helmet on the rock wall??? Your weathering's definitely looking better!
  12. I think they look fantastic. I wonder if there's a good way to modify them for trooping. Maybe by cutting away the palms of the gloves and replacing them with breathable fabric. Hmmm.
  13. Wasn't that Gammorean at C4? If it's the same guy, the costume was truly impressive! That's one you just don't see every day.
  14. I was thinking it would be a cool accessory to go with a dewback prod. Heyahhh!
  15. Cool, Rocko. I never really thought about that, but I'll bet you're right. Yes, they were all German in origin. I look forward to seeing what you find.
  16. I've been looking into purchasing a pony fur tornister like what was used on the dewback. So far, the cheapest I've found is around $70. That doesn't seem so bad to me, but I was wondering if any of you knew of specific sources you'd recommend, or even better, any replicas available out there (you know - packs without the mildew stench of the surplus store). I've also considered fabricating my own if I could get measurements from someone. Here's a pic of what I'm talking about (from a current ebay auction):
  17. You did a good job on that, DT. Yours looks a lot better than one right out of the box. Here's an modified copy of my post from FISD: My first impression: It's incredibly sturdy. I feel like I could probably sit on it and it would support me. The symmetry takes a little getting used to and in a strange way gives it a ROTJ look to me...or is that the weird ears. The ears are the worst part. They really do look odd especially since the rest of the helmet turned out so well. The lining is crap, so that's already out along with the light green lenses. I was impressed with the mic tips. they're decent enough facsimiles of the hovi mix tips and they have semi-circular holes out the back. I'm not sure why they didn't just cut out the entire circle. Brow and neck trim are nice...not entirely accurate, but nice. Oh yeah...almost forgot - the inside of the thing stinks like a chemical factory out of the box. Mods: I'm going to try my hand at repainting the ears, traps and frown by hand for the real stunt look. The ears are the weirdest part, so hopefully repainting the caps will help the shape a bit. I'm also going to add white flat-head screws to the ears. The frown is a little odd with a surface that slopes down toward the vents so I plan to open the vents up a little more with a file and cover the holes with dog screen. I'm going to open up the holes through the mic tips and possibly install fans there. I plan to paint the interior black and install new foam padding to get my face a little farther from the faceplate. It really pushed me right up against the lenses before I took out MR's packing foam. Let's see, what else? I don't think I'll bother too much with seam filler since I'll be dirtying mine up. The dirt should cover the seam very well. I might try covering the ear seams. I'd also like to raise the brow. Overall, it's a well-made bucket that's head and shoulders above the FX, but nowhere near the accuracy of TM, TE2, or AP. It's an oddball, but it should be WAY sturdy enough for trooping. It is a little bigger inside than my TM. That may be due to the symmetry as it sort of makes the face more pinched forward.
  18. Me too. In fact, I feel like the shoulder bells help distribute the weight a bit better. I also bought a pair of Timbuk3 messenger bag strap pads that just velcro over the straps. I also attach my shoulder ammo pouch to the left pad. On longer troops, I often start out with the pack but eventually ditch it and go Docking Bay 94. It really makes a difference and i really don't see the point in self-torture for long periods of time. My first troop was a day-long event and I still feel the pinches and the pack strap welts when I think about it. I thought I just needed to stick with it, but I really don't see the point. Now, if it's a couple of hours, I wear the pack...any longer and I sometimes don't even bring it.
  19. Do you have any pics of it in kit form (i.e. - what it looks like out of the box)? I'm wondering how many pieces there are, how the pieces fit together, if they're trimmed or not, etc.
  20. Although many of the pic links are now broken, this thread has some good links to sources. http://www.mepd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=...ght=lewis+strap
  21. Yeahhhhhh, no more special ed troopers. They look great. Not that you solicited feedback, buuuuuut, it'd be cool if both logos were either in perspective or not. Just a thought.
  22. There's a hyperfirm in the for sale section right now.
  23. Where did you hear of them? Why are you looking for them? What's the context? AFAIK there is a company called Marley and they make a large number of adapters for drainage systems, gutters and the like. Maybe it's some obscure Christmas Carol reference.
  24. Coolness! Thanks for sharing the pics.
