  1. One thing is for sure... You have a lot more patience than I do. When life slows down and I have the time to do this It would be nice to see a tutorial. Thanks for the "quick" version.
  2. Looks great! How did you make it look like the metal was wearing through the black paint?
  3. You could put a call out for troopers to donate items such as patches, coins, other random SW stuff and sell it along with your trooping. As long as the proceeds go to the cause I don't see why there should be a problem. Another option is always something like doing a run of patches or shirts yourself and price them a higher than it costs to make them. People will get the shirts if it's for a noble cause. I'm sure you could even have someone create a design for you. I would check with the 501st to make sure you're allowed to do these things but it seems silly if they said no.
  4. As it came.. Masked off stock and painted everything else.. Stained stock and grip pieces (not sure if I want to go darker), added a little silver Finished... for now. I haven't decided if I am going to weather it a little or go with a darker stain for the stock and grip. I will be getting a sling for it though.
  5. The thing I like most about being a TD is the fact that you're different. If you put a room full of TKs together, they all look the same. Put a room full of TD's together each one has noticeable differences. Going dirty allows you to put more of your personality into your costume, your weathering, your ammo pack configuration, your choice of weapons, and your pauldron all make your armor, yours. Also, it is nice not to have to worry about scuffs and scratches.
  6. You can get it at Thinkgeek.com for $159.99 although it says out of stock at the moment. My wife got it for me for my birthday last June and it was only $100.00. It's been on this site for a while, I guess it got popular.
  7. When push comes to shove they are his movies and he should be able to make the changes he wants. That being said, you'd think he would have taken into consideration all the negativity that surrounded the SE and would have released the originals on Blu-ray. Or at least made the changes he wanted and then given the consumer the choice to buy the re-vapmed version or the original. There is a version of the DVDs that have both the SE and the original versions any reason he couldn't have done with with the blu-ray?
  8. Where's #5 from Short Circuit?
  9. Can't do much about the lack of time thing, but as for skill... You really need determination more than skill. A lot of us, including myself, had never done anything like this before either. Nobody here will judge you for asking a question and there are threads-a-pleanty on getting through the tough parts. I was tempted to simply throw down the money and have one built for me as well. TRUST ME, you will be so much happier if you do the work yourself. When people see your costume and you can say that you built it, it's well worth the time, razor blade cuts, glued fingers, and armor bites.
  10. Chuck and family didn't just show up, he showed up bearing one of the most meaningful gifts we've been given.
  11. I don't know anything about RT-Mod but I am very happy with my AP armor. It has it's challenges (but from what I've read most of them do). It was my first set and I was able to overcome the issues (pieces not lining up and having to heat mold the shoulders a bit). Like everyone is probably going to tell you, just take your time and you'll be fine regardless.
  12. If you sew to the wetsuit you have to sew with it on yourself or a mannequin. It'll look weird when it's off but when you put it on everything will stretch to the places and sizes it needs to be. That also means hand sewing everything though (or at least starting the stitch by hand and then finishing it on a machine). A strapping system isn't that much of a pain, once you get used to it I bet it'll go on just as fast as what you want to do with your velcro.
  13. Thank you! Of course I think she's beautiful as well. Thank God she takes after her mother!! My wife was partial to uncommon names. She really liked Daya and what it meant (Mercy and Kindness). We had a list of three names that we both liked and we were waiting to see her before we chose one. When she came out she didn't "look" more like one or the other. So we did what anyone does when faced with a dilemma like this... We flipped a coin. The looks on the nurses and doctors faces was priceless when I pulled out a quarter to decide her name. We flipped between two names, my wife REALLY wanted Daya and I had chosen something else. I actually won the coin toss but I knew how important it was to her so I told her she won. After all, she had just been through something I would never willingly go through. Maybe one day I'll tell her I actually won the coin toss but not yet.
  14. Yeah, it's been a little bit of a roller coaster. A good one. Rick, you got a good looking couple of "dirty boys" there. Juan, It seems like just yesterday that you were announcing that you guys were expecting. Time does fly huh? Here are a couple pics of Daya: http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g448/Alzoldan/DSCN0668.jpg http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g448/Alzoldan/DSCN0743.jpg
  15. Well... My daughter is all of 9 days old, which prompted me to write this letter: "Dear Sleep, I miss you... Although I wouldn't trade what's preventing me from spending time with you, it doesn't mean I don't miss our time together. I'm sure, in the future, that we will be able to hang out for more than a couple hours at a time. Until then, know that I think about you especially at night. Sincerely, Aaron"
  16. I think... The hair is freckin awesome!!!

  19. Dana, I'm gonna go ahead and send you my helmet. Just feel free to do exactly what you did with yours for mine. LOVE it!
  20. There are websites that you can use to make the signature banners http://www.mybannermaker.com/ is one of the sites I've used. It's not the most user friendly site but it'll get the job done. If you just search for banner makers you'll get a list. Most of them are free because they'll add their website to your banner but, it hey, it's free.

  22. You'll miss your "squeaky clean" armor for about six seconds, then you'll wonder why you even had a clean set. Keep up the good work.
