  1. This is a great thread for me as im getting close to having all i need to have a go at my first back pack build. Looks great
  2. Thanks guys i think i will open the eyes out a little more I think i will wait until i start weathering my body armour before i do any more work on the helmet, si that i can try to get the same look if you know what i mean. Im going for the less is more look and the pics wash out the all over grubby look my helmet has...
  3. Ok ive been collecting some parts and other stuff to turn my fx into a sandtrooper but this is my first real step into the dirty world... I got a new helmet at the weekend from a friendly trooper here in the uk which he kindly finished all the hand painting part but left it clean for me to play with. I used acrylic paints, dabbing it on with a sponge and then used crumpled paper to soften the effect and repeated several times but i didnt like the effect i was getting. So i washed it off and kept re-applying it and rubbing it off and so on. Then this afternoon i gave it a going over with some artist oil pastel's and am a bit more happy with the effect of ground in dirt rather than obvious sponge marks. What do you think, any and all tips and hints are welcomed.. This was the starting point Turned into this
  4. Awesome work on the pauldron there Rolf and Sara.. now where do i send mine to?
  5. I think it may be a combination of 2 things here Rolf. I think they have used some genuine pouches and maybe the costume department replicated some also. Look at the pic you posted the pouches section for the individual magazines are more rounded and not so sqaure as the real deal, just my 2 pence worth
  6. I thought i would reserect this thread as it is a good 1 but some if not all the pictures are missing? Is that a glitch from the switch over? Anyways i have been collecting a few pouches over the last couple of weeks / months while im gathering all i need to convert my armour to sandy and thought i would add to this thread. So far i have these pouches, some accurate and some not so... I have the Norwegian(?) Mp40 that were brown that i painted black 2 more Norwegain that i will most likely paint black sometime in the near future Stolla Wien And some canvas MP40 pouches, again need to be painted.. And finally a big thank you to Rolf TD252 for all the pouch and paint chat we have had over the last few weeks, you've been a real help
  7. Happy birthday Mike, hope you have a great day
  8. White straps for the shoulder conections
  9. I would be interested in these, can you contact me and we will sort something out, cheers
  10. I spent 2 weeks in Cyprus this April and may go again in either aug or sept for 1 week. I was hoping to go to Tunisia for a week this year but that may have to wait until next year
  11. I make my shoulder straps using 2 inch elastic as the base and then cover each side using canvas. They are obviously 2 inches wide and about 7-8 inches long which is plenty to then use snaps to attatch the front and rear plate together and then the bells and biceps are held with a piece of 1 inch elastic coming from the shoulder strap. Here are some pics
  12. Great thread Rolf and im loving the armour build I say go for it with the hunbrol, i painted all my lids with it as you know and after 3 coats it dries hard and is sooo glossy The good thing with the enamal paint is, as you know, it goes on without leaving any brush marks but it is flexible also.. I can sqaush and flex my hdpe lid without it cracking and coming off. I had to use a tooth pic to weather my move along helmet, no chipping with my finger nail. And when i painted my TE2 the fragile looking hips changed to a hard thick sturdy helmet. Im sure you will be happy with the whole suit in the gloss, it would look amazing
