  1. At last! TD-9914 is done! After nearly 3 years trooping and gradually learning what it takes to be "Deployed" I am ready to go official. Here it is:
  2. Actually the Visual Reference for a New Hope does concure that black uniformed "Imperial Officers" (Legion IDs) are the Stormtrooper corps uniform when not in armor. It would make perfect sense as a baracks dress or non-tactical posture. That particular Officer who is told to see to it personally, may very well be that first Orange Pauldron trooper we see at the crash site, for all we know. The Sandtroopers do appear to be a more elite version of trooper which is reinforced by the use of pauldons during the clone wars. I suspect there are other colors of Sandtrooper we haven't seen yet. Orange get 7 sandies under him, like a Squad leader. Two are white pauldron SGTs, and the remaining are black pauldron corporals... Now, who is the Platoon Leader? Or are these boys like Special Forces ODAs where you would have a Captain leading about a dozen troopers? I would imagine simple training in desert survival is only the tip of the ice berg. The Sandtroopers somehow knew to mimick Tusken attacks well enough to fool Luke Skywalker, so they clearly have enough specialized training in cultures and tactics, and I would even venture to guess even Huttese or Tusken dialect. Who knows if they ambushed the Tuskens to get their equipment or even negotiated with them for material in exchange for gaffi sticks etc.... Who knows what happened off screen... Would be worth depicting in a serious fan film or comic.
  3. Happy Thanksgiving/turkey nom nom day! Visiting Dallas Texas today
  4. I use the Canvas norwegian pouch on my shoulder like TD-1536's famous pic. It has leather loops on the back which I used a separate D-Ring (not to be confused with closed one on the left strap of the pouch) to attach to my harness sytem underneath the plate. It is free of the backpack and offers more mobility but I was only able to do this based on the way I assembled my armor.
  5. I use a Stanly Large wheeled tool box. They go for $59 at believe (could be $49 actually) at HOME DEPOT. I painted it and added stickers for shits n giggles. I have one for each costume. My TD fits in here currently. Depending on how you constructed you armor, it IS POSSIBLE TO FIT HELMET ARMOR AND BACKPACK into this. If your backpack is modular, IT WILL FIT. My DLT-19 goes in a case and does not fit, as it is too large, however an E-11 has room to spare. Since my new pack is under construction, I will submit photos of how I get it all together. Either way, this tote is perfect. I don't know if Airlines take it. You can't fly with anything these days, but it is great for driving distance conventions, especially Dragon-Con. The item is called: Stanley 37-025 Mobile Tool Chest http://www.drillspot.com/products/439573/S...bile_Tool_Chest The price listed is $84.97 BUT do not buy it here. Go to HOME DEPOT and it is $59.00 and there is no shipping. Good luck!
  6. Any idea how to build one?! lol I guess I can start with the Kenner toy and work upwards. Half of every weapon in Star Wars was based off a larger actual weapon.. Shouldn't be too hard... I am going forward with the project.
  7. LOL! That's histerical. Me and my girlfriend had this very arguement about toiletpaper! I tell her, you can't wipe your *** with clouds and good intentions.... You need something like.... SANDY!!! lol
  8. Although Sandtroopers are never seen sporting an E-Web blaster, that's not to say you shouldn't see one manning one while at a Garrison or re-enforcing someone in battle, no? We've only seen Snowtroopers use them in the films, but they are used in Force Unleashed and can be found in the Imperial arsenal on Star Wars Databank. I've seen a fan-built one in Star Wars Insider, so one of you I'm hoping belongs to that Garrison, and if so, can you link me to any tutorials or photobuckets on the project? I'm thinking this would be a great displace piece for our 501st displays. What do you all think?
  9. Here's my LOL: http://mine.icanhascheezburger.com/view.aspx?ciid=2135143
  10. <a href="http://s87.photobucket.com/albums/k133/firefox13a/?action=view&current=HappyHalloween.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k133/firefox13a/HappyHalloween.jpg" border="0" alt="HAPPY HALLOWEEN!"></a> Here's my pumpkin... I don't have quite the skills, but this one's for all you all and the 501st!
  11. So I got a whole bunch of parfait tops off ebay finally and hamburger stackers!! My question is what kind of bottles to use. I have been using walmart bicycle sport bottles but they look a little small, although they are perfectly cylndrical. I read previously about Metamucil bottles and was going to go that route until I noticed my Armorall Wipe dispensers looked about right! Before I waste money on full bottles of metmucil-which I have no use for lol, is the Armorall wipe bottles better? I even think the baby wipe bottles are the same dimentions, so how about those? I can justify buying the two types of wipes since my car would love a full cleaning, but what is everyone's recommendations on what is closest to screen accurate? What is everyone using? -Metamucil bottles? -Baby wipe bottles? -Armorall wipe bottles?
  12. Currently I am using the end caps of the FX mortar tube and plate fixed to a pipe approximately the appearence length of "Move Along Trooper" on the right. The dial was vacuformed. Someone sold the piece to me on ebay but I am trying to build another identical one for my "guest" armor pack for friends to troops with in. I picked up Alvin Ice tubs and they are noticably thicker and longer. As is, they look like superb with the end caps painted white and a panel, but don't I'm guessing they need cutting. Mike, did you cut out part of the diameter to make yours?
  13. I didn't believe it till I tried it. I used oven cleaner to remove all my original paint. Everything came off and it was bright white after wards! Because of all the scratching, I went ahead and used Camo-flage tan spray paint and testors paint thinner to wipe high points to create the look I was going for. Thinner takes paint off. 409 cleaner works well on tempura paint but nothing else.
  14. Nice find! I am using a standard Walmart-vacuum filter for mine. It has good detail but sets you back $20 for it. I bet the prop makers never though people 30 years later would be trying so diligently to recreate what they improvised!
  15. 1.) Maybe I am playing catch up, but while constructing my most recent SD-48 pack, I noticed the so-called 'mortar' tube on the side of the packs seem to vary in size?! If you examine the trooper on the left, you will notice he is closer to the camera, yet his mortar is shorter than the trooper on the right. Are these two types of weapons? One has a top, the other does not also. Question: What are the accepted lengths? Is there an official MEPD adopted length? (what are we going with) 2.) While we are on the subject, the lack of bipod, elevation equipment and pintle leads me to believe these are not mortars, but Anti-Armor/Anti-Tank weapons like the US M72 LAW rocket. This was common during the time period during the 1970's where US Troops (recently redeployed from Vietnam) carried LAWs attached to their webgear as did British Commandos at the time. The M72 LAW rocket was a common individually carried anti-tank weapon. Mortars, 60mm and 81mm were NOT carried my individuals, as they are a crew-served type weapon and would have limitted numbers. The lowest level to be allocated would be Company Level, not our typical 7-Trooper squad. HOWEVER at the Infantry squad level, you should very well see invidual Anti-armor weapons assigned. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M72_LAW http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_infantry_mortars Soldier with smallest caliber mortar: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M224_Mortar Question: What is is?! Or are we all wrong and is it a bedroll with sleeping matt?
  16. I don't have pictures yet since I am building yet another pack but I prefer using MIL spec Rucksack straps in SWAT black. They are easier to adjust and have quick-releases to drop it off in a hurry. I know they aren't screen accurate but they are completely concealed. I recommend these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ALICE-PACK-BACKPACK-FR...1713.m153.l1262
  17. Hey are these still available?
  18. Good work Slave5... Seeing as you beat me in that last round of ebay bidding for the frame!!! j/k
  19. I will be going to Dragon Con! I will be marching in the parade as my TD. Looking forward to meeting you all! (some of you again)
  20. Where are you getting the main boxes and radio?
  21. Cooking pans, huh? Good idea. Since I still wanted a functional pack, I am going to use some modified cabinet magnets screwed in with hinges to allow each box to open and close and store all components inside. In my curret configuration I can fit my entire TD armor kit AND pack inside my Stanly brand tool kit/wheeled tough bin that you find at home depot... That's part of the project. Getting it all to fit while maintaining screen accuracy. My current pack disassembles completely so I have to get this new one to do the same. I will keep you all updated but I am very greatful for the feedback you all are giving me. I hope to have this ready for the Clone Wars premiere. We're doing a double feature Clone Wars and A New Hope at a Drive in
  22. Hey all! I am building yet another TD Backpack, despite the success in trooping with my year-old semi-functional pack. Big thing I want to change is the main boxes. I've been using two walmart flip boxes that allow for storage and seal them with slide lock buckles, but they are too thin when compared to screen shots. Where are these original seed boxes I've heard so much about? What is the best equivilant so that I may locally procure them and do a vis-mod to make them screen accurate? Once that is done, I will slap on what has worked with the other pack. The big thing I am maintaining, albiet not 100% screen accurate is the modular, take a part design. I plan on attaching hinges to this to make it open and store components. It is amazing what you can do with slide lock buckles I've heard about cat litter boxes, reproduced styrene, but there has to be something a bit more sturdy that I can grab at walmart. So far, I am leaning toward modified cat litter boxes. Input?
  23. (continued) I have had the greatest times trooping both with Star and Carolina Garrison. Along the way I've met some truly great people and had a blast. I've also seen one **** of an evolution of armor and weapons. Just to show you a quick synapsis, here are two pictures of me in my armor from when I first joined the legion in 2006 and now. Then: Now: This is TD-9914, out.
  24. (Continued) A little too much paint, I decided to repaint my new bucket just in time for our Garrison Photoshoot. Todd Lacey went ahead and posted some up not too long ago, but they rock, so here they are again, April 19, 2008: Here, we captured Princess Leia: And then, we captured another Princess Leia... Who'd thought she learned to decoy from her mother having known her for less than 5 minutes?!: Then there was free Comic book day on 4 May 2008. Anybody who didn't get their free comic was arrested. That was the price of free comics... You had to take one: Then out of nowhere, we were ambushed!: And most recently was Heros Con in Charlotte:
