feezle
So, I have some HIPS armor. It was painted white with appliance epoxy and then weathered with acrylic paint. When I got it, it was too dirty for my taste so I took some rubbing alcohol and removed most of the weathering from the armor. When I got to the ab piece, I found something different going on. Same acrylic paint, but it won't come off and there appears to be some kind of textured paint over it. I've even tried sanding it down, and the majority of it is now smooth, but it still looks like this... That is too weathered compared to the rest and is going to make my scheme look off. As you can see, I was able to pull most of it off of the material he made the TD conversion piece out of, but the rest won't budge. My question: Would it be ok to repaint this piece with applianace epoxy and start over?
DirtyBoy
have you tried a goof off or anything like that?
feezle
I haven't. Been leary of trying much because I didn't know what might cause a reaction with the plastic.
DirtyBoy
diluted goof off might do the trick....just use in an area as a test first. i believe if its not left on there for too long you should be fine.
trooper1
Hey I have posted before, but as a gun dealer I use a synthetic gun cleaner you can pick up at Walmart. I spray it on a rag and wipe off the paint. I use it on mine to take off oil base paints. It works like thinner, but is safe for plastics. Just dont let it sit in one place a long time. It works great. I use it for everything, even when making Pauldrons.
