Knee Plate Installation Question

What's the best way of installing the diamond shaped knee plate? I got one off of a friend, and it's all put together already (three layers of plastic). I've seen pics of people screwing theirs into their lower leg armor piece, but that's before the final exterior piece was glued on. So, I'm looking for ideas on the best way of attaching this to my lower leg piece.

Thanks!

I have one of ArsonSmith's vac formed ones and just velcroed it on (I lost hte little mount piece). I've trooped with it twice that way and it's never moved at all.

Personally I like the velcro in that I don't have to worry about it breaking off when I pack/unpack, but the other two sandys I troop with screwed theirs on and have had no problems that I'm aware of.

I assume you're talking about the industrial velcro that's basically hook on hook, correct? I thought about using velcro or even the glue that came with my FX kit. Thanks for the replies so far guys.

Yup. There really isn't much holding it on, but four hours of straight trooping and it's never moved. Hard to believe, really...

Yea, if you don't have the bracket the way my knee plates are made, I'd suggest industrial velcro. Get at walmart or home depot. It has an almost smooth hook side and the pile/loop side looks like normal pile.

The stuff that looks like hook on both sides is called ball and cup I think. Or something similar. I don't know where to get it from though.

I made mine, with 2 bolts built in, and so it is screwed on... I have to cover the nuts in foam otherwise they dig into my knee but other than that, its fine...

I had a similar problem but used a high speed dremel cutter to shorten the bolt and put a bead of hot glue over it as added prevention against possibly scratching me on the inside. Don't even know its there now.

  • 2 weeks later...

I was able to attach this to my calve piece over the weekend, and I used Goop to do it. I think it turned out pretty well, and it seems to be a very strong fit. I'm concerned about trooping in the cold Chicago weather, because I'm not sure how well this stuff holds up in cold weather. So, hopefully it will stay on where it needs to be.
