Here's one thing to consider... something about Tatooine's sand and dirt stuck to metal and armor. Period. Case in point, look at C-3PO right after they leave the escape pod. They're like 100 steps away from it, you can still see it in the background, and they look like they've been there for months! True. But 3po and R2 were already quite dirty on the Tantive IV. Which makes me think... Vader says on the Tantive IV "send a detachment down to retrieve the droids. See to it PERSONALLY, commander..." So, it could very well have been that the commander went down to adress a local group of sandys, and spoke to them "in person" about their orders, then departed. I think the sandys are already local because they are trained and skilled enough to ride on Dewbacks which are indigenous to Tatooine. Treg Posted February 26, 2011 Share Posted February 26, 2011 well in this image where Obi-Wan and luke enter into Mos Eisley you can see a group of stormtroopers with no gear of any kind like the sandtroopers indicting they could of been the ones sent by vader.
