slave1pilot Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 I started the weathering today I don't know if I like it or not what do you guys think? Too much? Too blotchy? not enough color difference? not enough white showing through? any input would be appreciated Without Flash With Flash And outside in the beautiful SoCal sun. Quote
Rolf Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 I like it . Maybe add a few more dark brown tones to it (mud, raw umber). And tone it a bit down. Quote
TD-443 Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Photos never do weathering justice. Maybe a little more white showing through. Really want to see what it looks like fully done! Quote

theGreatSot Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Your weathering looks excellent Nathan! I'd say you should go back and pat with a barely damp rag or paper towel to try and bring back some contrast at the high points and in a few spots that might naturally rub clean. Just my 2 cents. I agree, should tone it down just enough. Quote
slave1pilot Posted January 26, 2009 Author Posted January 26, 2009 thanks all I do appreciate honest criticism. many forums tend to placate the noobs by telling them how awesome their stuff looks in order to not discourage them. i was planning on hitting the high points Then letting it wear naturally i have everything "done" except the helmet, handbacks,& accessories i'll try it on & post a pic or 2 later tonight Quote
slave1pilot Posted January 26, 2009 Author Posted January 26, 2009 Ok, here's where i am now I am still going to hit the high spots (& do the other stuff i already mentioned) how does it look? Quote
Pappy Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 This is the first time how i applied my weathering(but with black color i know i know),like to see how it turns out when its done, and i agree, let some white coming through,if you want to add darker tone more do it slightly For refference, the behind the scene photo with a production guy holding a T-21 would suits how it should turns out with this base(orange pauldron trooper) Quote
Dutch Dirty Trooper Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 On pics weathering is always difficult to see but as far i can see you are doing a very great job bro ! Maybe indeed tone it down some. Keep up the good work ! Grtz RAY Quote
dutchy Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Good result you got there Nathan.. Weathering is always difficult to judge by pictures but yours is looking fine! Quote
slave1pilot Posted January 26, 2009 Author Posted January 26, 2009 thanks guys here's a huge pic to try to show the weathering better Quote
Dutch Dirty Trooper Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 I think (as now have seen the close up) if you tone the weathering some down....you will have one nasty TD armor bro ! Awesome job so far ! Grtz RAY Quote
Scootch Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 I'm no expert on this subject but I think Ray's correct but I think also you are asking about the coloration of the weathering and plan to remove some? Anyway it's looking good and I'm anxious to see the final results. Quote
slave1pilot Posted January 27, 2009 Author Posted January 27, 2009 Ok, I took the weathering down a tad how about now? Quote
slave1pilot Posted January 27, 2009 Author Posted January 27, 2009 and a close-up of the chest before and after Quote
TK-J Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 I like it!! Really brought the contrast out, and given it more depth. Nice to see some shiney poke thru too Quote
The_Trooper Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 It looks great! love your weathering style Quote
Dutch Dirty Trooper Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Ah yeah...he's looking awesome now bro !! Like TK-J already said...love to see some more shiny poke thru ! Great work bro ! Grtz RAY Quote
slave1pilot Posted January 27, 2009 Author Posted January 27, 2009 Got it. I'll take the weathering down some more I have to troop on saturday, so no more "fixing" until afterwards. I still need to do the bucket, pack, pauldron, pouches, and handbacks before Saturday Quote
slave1pilot Posted January 28, 2009 Author Posted January 28, 2009 Here's the bucket I was going with the "less is more" idea on the helmet I'm gonna try & get the armor down to this level of dirt waddya think? Quote
TD-443 Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 **** THAT BUCKET LOOKS GOOD! Perfect bro! Quote
