I think those are aluminum molds. Most vac formers uses aluminum tooling and casting these days. they are probably hollow and mounted to the base sheets. That way they are always in place. All he needs to do is mount them to the platen at the four corners. automated vac formers use air pressure to get the molds to release as well. The plastic is pulled away from the buck by machine. That is whay the bucks/molds are shaped like they are.
