inglorious trooper
coming towards the end of weathering my lid! after the best way to install my lenses.my last helmet was easy as i cut the lenses to the eye shape and just glued them in! this time i want to make it screen accurate so im using the whole length of the green accetate that came with it and attach it in using the ear screws. once thats done do i just dab a few blobs of glue round the eyes to hold it in place? any opinions would be great
Archangel
I did the same as you for my first lid and my new lid. I just cut them out to the sahpe of the eye openings and used hot glue just around the edge. Make sure you scuff the inside of the lid first where you plan on gluing. Scootch
There's a thread brewing here: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=20058 Same subject.
DirtyBoy
I would think the screws would hold it in place so you wouldnt really need the glue. Interested to find out for sure though
troopermaster
Just use the brass bolts to hold the lens in place. No need for glue. Use the top bolt and make a hole in the middle of each end of the lens and make sure you use a whasher and nut to avoid the lens ripping off. f0xtrooper
I originally did my lenses as TM posted. But they were so uncomfortable I had to forgo the accuracy as there isnt a lot of space in the helmet and it was rubbing against my eye; and to be honest I couldnt see me wearing it for a 4 hour stint. I removed all the padding and lenses and basically went back to the begining. I cut up a set of foam knee protectors to use to pad the inside of the helmet and give it some more space. I filled the eye surrounds with milliput and popped in some motherboard standoffs to hold the lenses. I ground off the outer screw with my dremel leaving this Next I made a template for the lenses using a piece of toy plastic from one of the many toys I have to buy for my little ones. I transfered the template to a piece of wielders mask and drilled the screw holes The wielders mask is much darker and stronder than the material that came with my helmet. I edged it off with C channel (So I dont scratch my face again ) and screwed it into the helmet Finally I ran some weather stripping over the srew heads and placed the last piece of padding between the nose bridge. As the helmet is obviously not symetrical it needed padding here to stop irritation to my left eye. just another option
