What to do without Fullers earth or grout
Iantrebinski@gmail.com replied to Iantrebinski@gmail.com's topic in Weathering
This looks like a good option, but I prefer the natural look from Trooperbay's video using just FE. The paint is good for "oil" effects but having lived in the desert for over 3 years, I've yet to see my car with any oil on it...just heaps of dust, sand, dust, grit, dust, sand & grit......and some mud, on the 3 days a year when it rains! I've got a few spare pieces of ABS, kindly supplied by RS, so will experiment and do some side-by-side comparisons of different techniques when I post my WIP photos/videos. -

Mail servers went down at work this morning, I got bored, so ended up ordering the FE plus some other bits from Trooperbay. **** YOU, I.T. DEPARTMENT...YOU'RE COSTING ME A FORTUNE! -

If all else fails, I'll drop the dollars on Trooperbay but I'm determined to give this other stuff a go first. RS are throwing some ABS off-cutsd in with my armour, so I can experiment on those before going to work on the real deal -

Still on the look-out for alternative materials for my weathering, and have found a shop that supplies really fine modellers' flocking in all sorts of sandy/earthy colours. Anyone used/tried this before? -

Requirements for deployment

Gah - picture didn't display...I meant the 3rd picture here, Enlisted Alley Door Check http://forum.mepd.net/index.php?showtopic=7297 -
Hi all, Just querying the exact requirements for deployment. My TD set-up will have a black pauldron and E11; does that mean I have to have the exact same pouches & backpack as the picture here in order to get cleared for deployment, or is there some variation allowed? Thanks!

What to do without Fullers earth or grout
Iantrebinski@gmail.com replied to Iantrebinski@gmail.com's topic in Weathering
@clonecollector - yep, it's in lots of colours here, but only the pre-mixed tubes/tubs. The powder is only available in white @iconoclasta - yeah, but i really wanted the lumpy, blotchy effect you get with using solid materials. I've just been out for a walk with the dogs, and got some really (I mean REALLY) fine sand, in 2 shades. I'm gonna try using this and see what happens. I'm intending to keep a video diary when I start, so will be sure to post it here and let you see my great successes and epic fails -
Hey all, In a bit of a jam here; - Fullers earth is non-existent here - hardware store only sells grout in white So; - is there a reliable way of "dyeing" grout to get different colours? - if I apply paint, then the white grout, will the grout pick up the colour of the paint? - if not, is there a viable alternative to these 2 mediums for weathering? Considering I live in the desert, can I simply go and get some actual sand?!?! All advice much appreciated

Well, as a complete noob, I can only say I'm totally satisfied with their service so far. Had almost daily comms with them since I placed my order, and they're assuring me everything will be waiting at my bro's house when I'm back in the UK at the end of next month (I'm getting a Fully Loaded, pre-assembled TD set). I'll update here when I have my hands on the gear but, to date, Andrea & the guys have been top notch....

Guys, just getting my kit together and wondered if my pauldron colour had to be black (Private), as I'll obviously be waaaaaay down the pecking order when I eventually start trooping? Also, are there any specific tweaks/additions that are required as we rank up? I.e. if I put on an orange pauldron, is there anything different I need to have/do? Cheers,

How & where to start?

It seems so Dutchy - order placed & should be waiting for me at my bro's when I fly back to the UK next month! Andrea @ RS has been a great help, and they're basically putting everything I need together so I'll be ready to go straight out of the box. Just need to do the weathering when I get back here, which I'm really looking forward to. I have a question about pauldrons, but I'll pop that on the relevant board. Thanks to everyone for their help here, and really hoping the next month flies by! -

Thanks again for the tips guys; I'm currently in e-mail comms with RS PropMasters (uber-quick response form them!), so I'll see how that goes. @Rick - I'll drop you a PM, cheers. -

Answered own question - digging through whitearmor.net says "No!" to that eBay seller, lol. More research required, methinks...have dropped RS PropMasters a line and will get in touch with some other dealers as well. Cheers
