Or mix it 50:50 with turpentine or another paint thinner. Just a little bit in the holes and then wipe the rest away with a clean towel. It makes an oily structure and looks very realistic...

Hey Matt, what kind of color did you used? the armor is really great but in my opinion, the blaster and the pack are too yellow, specially the blaster (the boltings and the barrel). for my blaster i try to use metal cote #27001 and #27004 from humbrol and just a little bit of sand color (humbrol #63). just a tip;-) keep on going... sandy greetings, felice
