  1. Sorry for the late response, but I just noticed your question! I'm sure a washer and rivet would work, but I used a small sandpaper disk found in a dental office. It's a Sof-lex disc, medium grit made by 3M. Send me a PM if you need one... I've got hundreds!
  2. I like the four colors on the far right, personally!
  3. I weathered my armor with tile grout using three different colors and hairspray, and it was good enough for SWAT. I like the realistic look it provides up close as it resembles sand. It's easy to use and if you don't like it, you can always sand it off and try again. Give it a try... I'm sure you'll be happy with it!
  4. From top to bottom, this looks great! Nicely done, trooper!
  5. Looks like I should save my little tiny bag of sand from Tunisia for future weathering...
  6. This kit may challenge you. Do you know who made it? What degree of accuracy are you hoping to achieve?
  7. Welcome Joshua! I too have an AP kit and it was my very first build. If you take your time, there aren't too many tricky spots with it. Get some blue painter's tape so that you can tape your trimmed pieces together first to check for comfort and size. For guidance, I followed Pandatrooper's build on the FISD. Good luck and be sure to check in as you need help.
  8. Your weathering looks great! Good luck with your deployment.
  9. Overlapping works provided you have a molded "cover strip" formed in your armor, which it appears you do. If you don't, then I agree with John... sand them down and apply a strip. I dug into my archive of photos and found a set showing my legs. Again, mine are overlapped and work well.
  10. On the backs of my calves, I did not use a decorative cover strip... i just overlapped the pieces as they were. In this photograph of yours, you seem to have the right idea on the bottom of the calf. Just swing the top half over and that should do it.
  11. From what I can tell, it looks like you're trying to get the backs of your calves to meet up in a butt joint. When you overlap the back of one over the other and attach with velcro, it should look just fine. Just make sure you can still fit your leg inside it. You will likely have to adjust the length at the top or bottom to level things out.
  12. Looks like you got the basics down good! Welcome!
  13. Another work of art... nicely done sir!
  14. Hi Mitch, Welcome to the MEPD! I had the very same questions when I got started. Most of us purchase armor "kits" from vetted makers and then assemble them ourselves. You can find a list of makers on the FISD forums here at http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/11538-the-various-types-of-armor-and-where-to-find-them/. The kits will vary with regards to material, price, and wait-time, but all should get you an armor you'll be proud of. For what it's worth, I elected to go with Authentic Props (AP) armor. Good luck!
  15. In the midst of droid building, I convinced my wife to allow me to complete a Shadow Scout build for her. Now the kids think she's REALLY cool!
  16. So it's been a full 2 years, but I recently finished my astromech... and no, it's not the one we were looking for.
  17. Lol! When I saw the title of your post, I was wondering what you were planning with a child sized "cauldron". Happy to see it's a pauldron you're after!
  18. Welcome to the MEPD Logan! I have an AP kit too and am familiar with it. Most of up cut the backplate/ kidney plate. You'll likely find it more comfortable than leaving it whole. Have fun!
  19. Welcome back Lou! Did you get that Shadow Scout finished up?
  20. Great to see you back in action Nick... I will be following along!!
