  1. I was searching everywhere for the list of requirements but couldn't find them (I thought I'd finally gone nuts). Makes sense now that I know it was removed from the charter. I guess it's up to the Legion as to what they list as a Desert Trooper, but we all know any TD worth their mettle would want to join the MEPD And as long as deployment requirements remain in this detachment, some standards can be maintained. Just my 2 cents (although, it's 2 cents Canadian...)
  2. When I had clean TK armour (sorry, us Canucks spell it with a "u") I found myself in more static, "guarding" poses. The E-11 was either in my hands at the ready or holstered (one hand either on the belt or by my side with the right hand holding the E-11 in the holster - kinda like in a gunslinger at high noon). Being 6'3" I usually find it has the Moses-effect on large crowds... After the conversion to the TD I find myself very much with the same attitude mentioned above. A bit more swagger in your walk (a 'hitch in yer gitty-up', if you will). I always thought of the Sandtroopers a kind of Back-Water cop. They've got total authority in their territory and they know how to get that across to everyone around them. It's muuuuuch more fun being dirty!
  3. You certainly are a lucky man to have a girl willing to suit up. The closest I got was when my special lady friend got a Slave Leia. Hey wait, that ain't bad either... Finding girls that are cool with the hobby are always keepers!
  4. I agree with most of you that this is the best group in the 501st. I joined the MEPD because I liked what I saw on the boards and the sense of community that existed between you all. I could have just as easily done all of the TD requirements and stayed just within my Garrison but I chose to be a part of this detachment. I've received more help, encourangement, and tips from guys I may never meet (my MEPD brothers) than I get from my own garrison members. And to those lucky enough to troop together, consider yourselves blessed. Apart from a couple of guys in Western Canada I'm pretty much the only MEPD up here (in my area, anyways). But I wear my MEPD patches and t-shirts with pride at every event. I feel whether you're an old timer or a newbie this is the most supportive group in the Legion. That's something to be proud of!
  5. Thanks guys. I'll give that a try (Zac, if you could still post pics that would help).
  6. Sorry to hash up an old subject but I got a little lost reading this thread (a lot of dead links). I got a set of Zac's pouches (beauties, btw) and wanted to know if anyone who has purchased as set of these has a set-by-step to dying them from green to black (not shiny black, preferably flat). Should I use "deglazer", should I not? What kind of polish will stay put with the 'earth' on it? Again, sorry to start this up again... Thanks guys!
  7. Looks great! I had my bubble lenses in for 2 years and noticed after putting in the flat lenses that I didnt get headaches after taking off my bucket. Those bubble lenses are like wearing someone elses glasses!
  8. Wow! If their paintjob was half as good as yours I'd buy one! Maybe they're hiring
  9. Great site! Keep posting any new updates.
  10. I used the same method on my armor and loved the way it turned out. It also has a very natural look AND feel to it - when people touch the weathering it sometimes leaves a little dirt on their fingers. Nice little souvenir for the fans
  11. I picked up a set of the canvas pouches mentioned at the beginning of this post and I'm very happy with them. Haven't decided if I will dye them yet but if nothing else they're lighter than the leather ones. And to a TD any way to cut down on the weight you have to carry is good!
  12. There's nothing more impressive than when a group of Sandies gets together. Nice pix!
  13. I'm kinda new to this so please forgive me if I touch on a subject already covered but I'm in the process of building a more accurate pack and was just wondering what frames would be best for this. I've checked out the local surplus stores and they want close to $100 for any backpack frame. I've looked around for the boyscout frames but as most are online they are "sight unseen". At 6'3" I worry a boyscout frame would be too small for me to wear so I started looking at the ALICE frames. I guess what I'm getting at is, even though ALICE frames aren't what they used to make the packs, would you suggest them as a good option to use? Any help you could offer would be appreciated.
  14. I picked up a WWII French issued leather ammo pouch that fits my voice amp and also my wallet and keys. The pouch is already naturally weathered which is a plus. Picked it up from TK409 - he sells them sometimes on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 8733911838 Hope this helps.
  15. I picked up one of the "Deluxe" MG34s referred to in earlier posts. VERY, VERY disappointed. Had to do some weathering and other mods - now looks good from 5ft. If you're considering getting one from this guy it should be as a temporary substitute until your SciFire MG34 arrives.
