  2. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080731/ap_en_...mtrooper_battle By JILL LAWLESS, Associated Press Writer LONDON - The Force was with — whom? ADVERTISEMENT Lucasfilm Ltd. and a British prop designer both claimed victory Thursday in a legal battle over the iconic Stormtrooper uniforms from the "Star Wars" films. George Lucas's film company had sued Andrew Ainsworth, who sculpted the Stormtrooper helmets for the first "Star Wars" movie in 1977. High Court judge Anthony Mann ruled that Ainsworth violated Lucasfilm's U.S. copyright by selling replica Stormtrooper uniforms through his Web site to customers in the United States. But Mann refused to enforce in Britain a US$20 million judgment Lucasfilm won against Ainsworth in a California court in 2006. The judge said Ainsworth's U.S. sales, which totaled 25,000 to 30,000 pounds (US$50,000 to US$60,000), were not significant enough to make him susceptible to U.S. jurisdiction. The judge also rejected a claim against Ainsworth under British law, saying English copyright over the outfits had expired. Ainsworth's lawyer, Seamus Andrew, said the ruling meant that Ainsworth was now free to sell his replicas everywhere except the United States. However, in a win for Lucas' side, Mann also rejected a counterclaim by Ainsworth that copyright rested with him. "We won," said Lucasfilm's lawyer, Mark Owen. "At the end of the day there is an order that Mr. Ainsworth infringed our copyright, and the next stage of the case will be discussing remedies for that." The judge said a hearing would be held in the autumn to determine the next steps in the case — setting the stage for further battle over the molded white uniforms worn by warriors of the evil Galactic Empire. Among the issues will be whether either side can challenge the judge's findings at the Court of Appeal. At a hearing in April, Lucasfilm attorney Michael Bloch called the menacing Stormtrooper figure — a full-size model of which stood alongside the bewigged lawyers in the courtroom — "one of the most iconic images in modern culture." Lucasfilm and its lawyers had claimed the design of the Stormtroopers was created by Lucas and his artistic team, and was already in place by the time Ainsworth was hired to create the helmets. Ainsworth's counter-claim had sought a share of merchandising revenue from the six "Star Wars" films, which his lawyers estimated at 12 billion pounds (US$24 billion).

I missed the photo in the mourning because I was in Hall H. Most of the photos above are me on Saturday... Yea would have loved to run into you would have been a cool picture. And I speak spanish if you ever want to drop me a PM I live in San Diego
  4. I don't remember just know that its super easy to pull out. You can velcro them into your helmet or just hot glue them. Couldn't be any easier. And yea I they are buckworks from kevin over at http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?showtopic=3513 http://www.501stforums.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17238 I mounted them using industrial velcro which makes them super quite. It took my time mounting them and added a drop of super glue once I got them just right. And they do a great job of keeping me cool and my lenses fog free. Now my helmet fits like a glove and is super comfortable.
  5. Where? Well you have to go to that one store full wretched hive, scum and villany WalMart.. Just buy one of those $10 little league helmets. The foam expands when you take it out. Use some velcro and you are done...
  6. At 6'2" + and having lost quite a few lbs since I started my trek down TD land I am still pretty much as big as you can get and still make a TD suit work. And l have a head that all but has its own gravitational pull. Not saying I am the biggest guy in TD gear but as you can see from this picture I fill out every inch my armor. That said I think it would be a great idea if we added a helmet sticky thread. I know there are a few people like me that could not tell the difference between a TE2, MR CE, RT, ANHv2,AP, or FX Size to me is very important. I have 2 fans and a mic so real estate is at a premium inside my bucket. I actually enjoy my FX just for the fact that with a large chest it keeps me from looking like this dude
  7. I am in the same boat. I have a huge head and my FX with fans and head set with mic barley fits.... I honestly can't imagine going any smaller then what I am using now. I use a baseball helmet liner and my helmet does everything I ask it to do.. If there are better helmets that can fit me with fans, mic, etc I would like to read about it
  8. Hi this is my field pack * Note audio muted HIGHER RES. Youtube link ----> Sandtrooper Field Pack 1 Or click HIGHER RES. Youtube link ----> Sandtrooper Field Pack 2 Or click I have had a few request for more info on my field pack. It has a video screen the displays imperial text and several radar screens. I edited the video myself and added probe droid audio samples that loop. I added distortion to the video to simulate an old analogue signal that breaks in and out ( I thought a clean video would not look as good) ( I used probe droid audio because I figured that the empire would use them for re conn in tandem with some troopers) The video itself last 3 mins and I simply have it looped in my pack and will play for hours. I attached a small ipod speaker to the right of the video box that runs on AAA batteries. Its loud enough to be heard under most circumstances. I use a simple video ipod but I do have a psp that I may use for it larger screen. Like all my mods I am never truly done with them. and I still have more ideas up my sleeve. Inside the radio box is a green plasma screen. I wanted to have a power supply effect. The original radio box was see through, I added a metal mesh box and then painted the radio box black. This left the space under the metal mesh see through witch allowed the plasma disk to shine right through. As you can see this is a very simple Pack Mod. That while not canon it tends to make alot of people do a double take and thats fine with me The insides showing audio chord. The flash kind of makes it look ugly will prob retake some pictures tomorrow. This is the full video feel free to download and edit if you are into this kind of thing. To download click below DOWNLOAD
  9. Its made out of ABS. I am luck enough to have a plastic company here in town that let me have a huge 6 ft x 6ft sheet for 5 bucks. It was a left over and had been run over by one of there loaders so it had no commercial use for them.
  10. I don't know if its correct but for my FX all I did was cut a small ABS square and hot glued it over the bottom hole. My kit came with 3 extra buttons that I painted white.

Hi I guess I am the "guy" you are talking about. I had my suv in parked under the convention center so I suited up a few times. I too noticed a lack of Sandys. In fact I think I may have been only one of two wearing a field pack. While I would have loved to run into other Sandtroopers I loved every min I was there. Everyone that I took a picture with marveled at the amount of detail that is involved in building a Sandy. I think next year we need to coordinate a little bit better.
  12. Thanks! Cheers! but as you can see I whipped one out myself. Took me a min but here it is..
  13. If someone could be nice enough to give me 3 measurements of your sniper knee plate I would greatly appreciate it. All I need is the top, Middle and total length from top to bottom thanks!
  14. Well said, I have the utmost respect for everyone here at MEPD. The fact that most of the people here are very talented individuals that love to share there knowledge is what keeps me coming back to MEPD. Is the SE pack cannon? Well the fact that it appears in a SW movie the short answer would be yes. But if you are going by original cannon then the title A New Hope would not be cannon either. Correct me if I am wrong but that was added after only after Lucas knew there was going to be more then one film. That being said I think the SE packs are some prop guy being too lazy or carrying too much about a dead line to make the Sandtroopers packs look like they did back in 1976 when they shot the SW. To be honest they kind of look like some one picked them up at Party City more then they came from Skywalker Ranch. I am glad that MEPD has its standards and there fore have given the SE pack a thumbs down. My pack is not cannon but only because I had a vision of what I wanted and knew that would mean deviating from the ANH pack. I still try to keep it as close to ANH as I can tho.
  15. Happy B-Day Hope its a good one!

  17. Well Mike if you are ever in san diego look me up, I own every single 3/4 vehicle (not including variants) made since 1977... We don't call it playing at my house we call if research and development for future trooping
  18. As much as I have ripped on Hasbro in the past for there lack of imagination when it comes to there 3/4 scale action figures/vehicals I have to tip my hat to them for making some very buzz worthy toys the likes of which we have not seen in a long, long time. all I can say is Score!! Nuff said....
  19. Kick @ss dude! Thats awesome man, thank you for sharing. Making kids smile is always a great feeling, good job!

Oh while I love all of my 501st brethren I think its now safe to say that 4 out of 5 people prefer SandTroopers over most other evil guys in white plastic. LOL
  21. Hey Comic-Con is almost over and wanted to share some of the pictures I have taken so far. Hope its okay to post them here. Also while not 100% finished with my armor (need sandie knee pad, etc) I want to thank everyone at MEPD for all thier help I would have had a heck of a time getting my armor to look like this with out you guys! This is the product of just a few months of being on this site and not even owning armor before May. Even Randy Couture wanted to take a picture with a Sandtrooper! His people came over to me and said that he realy wanted to take a picture with me. I went over and we created quite the grid lock as dozens of people flashed pictures of us. He even asked to hold my BFG for most of the pictures. I am a huge MMA fan so I was very geeked out.
  22. Thats for the link thats super cool. My wife enjoyed talking to TD .443 and she said to tell her Hello
  23. It was an honor to meet TB .443! It was funny because when her and I were up on that stage I think I counted at least 100 pictures from the crowd below. Everyone loves a cute kid in armor and the sandies I tell yea....
  24. Thanks Thats Mike from the San Diego 501st Squad.
  25. Yes if you are only going to do one day then arrive early! Early, early, early.... Expect more people then ever before, Go online look at Fridays schedule and have a game plan.... the Exhibit floor is mostly packed in the center so if you show up early attack that part 1st because it will fill up fast, pack snacks so to keep from buying over priced food as much as possible ($4 hot dogs, $8 individual pizzas) and as odd as it may seem just don't be in too much of a hurry since its pointless with such huge crowds to get anywhere fast... last thing if you plan on doing anything in Hall H you MUST plan ahead!! Hall H has the worst lines of all the halls good luck hope I run into you
