  1. Thanks for the great feedback on this helmet, as mentioned I love this lid and got it for a steal Billy is correct though, I bought it fully painted/weathered and the brow trim is part of the FG mold and just painted...I will take some close up pics as it looks like real rubber. The ears are also molded with the helmet and are not attached separate. I know No Humor Man is selling his SFS which has separate ears (very very rare!!!) but can't take any glory myself for this lid. Respect to the previous owner/painter/weatherer/artist That said I am working on replicating the STS and Move along lids, so hopefully will update that thread shortly, just need to cryogenically freeze the family again to get some me time Really though this is a great family community and respect to all the members
  2. Have done a separate topic on the SFS if anyone is interested
  3. After some interest in my SFS, I posted up an old topic with some pics... As mentioned this is one of my favorite in my collection and really captures the look IMO: May redo the tube stripes at some point and paint them as opposed to the decals.
  4. Cheers for the info Rolf, can't wait to get this started!!
  5. Cheers Paul, yes I will be re-assembling it before I paint all the detailing. Although ABS I want to get it as accurate as possible to the SFS.
  6. Yes I received the TE FG 'Set For Stun' lid already painted up, and is one of my favorites in my collection.
  7. Today I was lucky to receive my assembled Laws helmet in the post. Cheers Dan It is so shiny and has sharp detailing. I was curious to compare it to some of my other lids as others have stated that there are differences between other helmets. I think to a point this may be due to assembly. I do not feel my cap is as tall as others seen but the face does appear flared. I do like the flared face plate and have therefore compared it with my TE ABS which also has the flared look. I have also added my Set For Stun as comparison: Just have to find the time to paint this up and replicate it on an idealised Set For Stun, though not as quick as Rolf at doing these
  8. Cheers guys I need to pull my finger out and get these done. Just been so busy at the moment with work and family. Will hopefully get these done soon, but still quite a bit of weathering/ageing/wart-adding to do
  9. Awesome work as usual Rolf
  10. Working quick Rolf!! And looking great so far! I love the Dave M lid and can't wait to see it complete.
  11. Awesome...looked like a great day. Rolf put it best..."Doing good"
  12. Had a busy Easter break, but finally got round to doing the tube stripes, which in my opinion are the biggest headache and take the most time. But to me they are the feature that have to be done right. On looking at both original lids, I think the tube stripes are a bit longer on the Stop That Ship as opposed to the Move Along, so did them 1mm longer. Also the first few stripes on each are more straighter than the others, so used a lesser curve on those. There are a couple of similarities between the tube stripes on each, which I only discovered when studying them... I have not received actual measurements so have just worked them out from photographs... Like on my Felth, I used airbrush masking film, which allowed me to accurately draw on the back prior to using the scalpel. Used the Humbrol #14 again which turned out good once dry. I am quite happy with the results, and have taken some more pics. The lids are taking shape now, but still have the weathering to do... Scott
  13. Can't wait to see you get to work on these lids Rolf!! and looking forward to seeing what the armour looks like. You must have a very patient family to allow you to spend so much time with this ...I have a sore ear with my mrs constantly giving me hassle Are you going to had paint all the detailing on the helmets if they are ANH?
  14. Awesome paint job Rolf Can't wait to see your next project!!
  15. I had already started it, but thanks for the advice. I have to rip the lid to match the tear under the right tube stripes, so will make sure any different colours showing are included. The signatures inside have slight overspraying, and don't want to lose them so haven't planned on adding any colour to the inside. I will see though towards the end . Cheers for the comments Armando ...looking forward to seeing your ESB...love your work! I have a bit of an update, just struggling to find time at the moment. I will be doing the tube stripes next, and they take me a lot of time to hand paint them as it is a pain to make sure there is no bleeding underneath the masking, but have a method which works quite well...just have to hand cut enough individual tube stripes for both lids Have painted most of the other main detailing, and tried to replicate them and keep them as rough as possible (well that's my excuse)...I am happy with both frows though Then it is the final weathering/ageing stage which will also take a bit of time, but am looking forward to that stage. Here are some pics... The 'Move Along' with it's brow set high: I have lowered the 'Move Along' in this picture: A bit of detailing on the trademark frowns: Scott
  16. Cheers for the advice guys, I will definitely try your options. I do plan on the finished lids being as they are displayed when auctioned, so no lenses or ears and neck trim only on the Move Along. Bad news is I had a bit of a nightmare with the Volvo white as found them at the back of a display cabinet and clearly out of date as the paint started separating as it dried..so have a lot of work saving the Move Along lid which has set me back Good news is I didn't spray both lids with the poo paint, so just used the satin porcelain white on the Stop That Ship and have just taken the masking off the main bits...a long way to go but here's some update pics...
  17. Just a quick update...Managed to source some decent paint to give them a bit of an aged look.. I tried the plastikote antique white and porcelain white, but they were just too creamy in colour and didn't look right. My three options were: 1. Spray them white and wait 20 years (cheers for the expert advice Paul ) 2. Spray them white and put them in a smokey pub for a few months (since the smoking ban in pubs, this will be an issue) 3. Source some decent off white paint (the easy option!!) Therefore had to try some car paint colours, and have decided to go with the Volvo white. I have also roughened up the teeth and tried to get them looking like the originals, and masked off the top of the stop that ship and have applied some liquid masking to both lids where the chips are... I have also attached the ears so they mask the shape of them for when they are removed, and tomorrow I will be spraying them both up so will post some pics then.
  18. Cheers Paul! I have the Plastikote Antique white also. You recommended both colours to me last year
  19. Cheers Guys I was recommended to use the following which also appears to be almost the same as the colour used on my TE FG SFS... Beige Grey from B&Q
  20. With the Mrs and the kids being away for the week I have finally started to do my two TE2 helmets. I will be basing them on the Stop That Ship and Move Along helmets, and doing them in their current form with cracks/chips and all. I will do the ears to screen accuracy so have both options, but they will be left off to match both surviving helmets. Once they are completed, they can compliment my Felth build. Thanks to TE2 for the lids, and to Mike for initially assembling them. I have had to lower the right eye on the Move Along and block out one or the frown gaps on the Stop That Ship. I then have sprayed them both with a HDPE like colour for when I chip them and replicate the worn away paint on the top of the Stop That Ship (the paint was still wet, hence the shine). This is the easy bit, as to replicate all the minor details and markings will take some work...but looking forward to doing them both together. I have worked out to get the accurate look of lowered and raised brow on the Move Along, but will show that down the line.
  21. Looking good so far It's worth trying to paint the lid and if you are not happy, you could cover them with decals. I have only fully painted one lid to date, and with the correct brushes was happy with the results. As it's a TD, you don't have to worry about putting black lines on the grey areas. It's the tubestripes that are the tricky part!! Looking forward to seeing it progress...keep the pics coming
  22. Thanks for the kind words guys!! I have still a few more alterations, but corrected some bits today and have done a comparison...
  23. Have a few projects soming up that will keep me busy, so thought I better crack on and get my Felth lid done. Still some minor bits to do, but starting to weather it...
  24. Ghost

    Trim

I've used both in the past but prefer the SWR149 as it is a bit smaller, making it easier to put the lid on your head if you have a small opening
