  1. I stubbled upon this awesome thread yesterday when searching for info on ROTJ armor . . . http://www.mepd.net/forum/viewtopic.php ... =strapping Its a fasinating read on different theories on methods used for strapping and to a certain extend, assembling the original armor. Its got cool diagrams and everything and a really interesting read . . . all 14 pages of it
  2. I made my avatar and sig in photoshop and flash . . . I love drawing on the computer At the moment Im working on a Family Guy parody of the Carbon Freezing Chamber scene from ESB because its the funniest show and they are forever spoofing Star Wars. Back on topic (sorry mods ) . . . I'd probably preffer a white or orange pauldron
  3. Just thought I'd chime in to express my interest in one of these pauldrons . . . and I dont even have any armor yet haha.
  4. Are you insane???!!! (coz if you are I'l buy it off you ) Seriously though, as nice as this armor is, your TE is the ultimate Sandtrooper costume!
  5. Very nice looking armor, congratulations! The armor looks a pretty good fit on you, including the forearms so with a little tweaking Im sure it will be ace! When I have saved up enough, I'l be ordering a TM for sure. At 6ft and just 160lbs though Im am abit worried it might be a bit large on me now though haha. The only problems I had with my FX armor was that the chest armor seemed to swallow me whole and the leg armor wasnt quite long enough for my liking. I put some foam inserts in the arms to keep them in place. My ideal armor would have smaller chest peices but longer limb armor since I am tall and skinny Keep us updated on your progress to becoming a fully flegded Sandtrooper
  6. Have pictures of the actual sandtrooper figure been released yet? I have seen some others (The concept Fett looks awesome) and wondered how accurate the Sandtrooper will be. I'l definately keep an eye out for it.
  7. I am eagerly anticipating this game, it really looks fantastic. The textures are great but being the perfectionist that I am, I believe the model could do with a slight tweaking. The HDPE chips are a very nice touch. Its really great to see such attention to detail being given to the character models. Its an exciting time to be a video games fan, the next gen consoles are really starting to deliver some amazing and imersive games
  8. Congratulations man, thats a real honour and it speaks volumes about the awesomeness of your costume. They used one of my favourite photos form your killer set and the artwork looks great too!
  9. Nice excerpt Braks! Given that location shooting in Tunisia took place prior to filming at Elstree, it makes perfect sense that the Sandtropoer look was refined and evolved into the Stormtrooper look. I think this is awesome because it means that the Sandtroopers were the original troopers, or at least the first to be "realised" and filmed. TD's rule!
  10. Wow . . . killer armor! Paul really has the ANH look nailed down, every detail looks spot on. Incredible to think this is all sculpted from scratch and the assembly looks very well done too Congratulations on your new armor man . . . I am green with envy. Just curious about those clips on the inside of the bicep pieces for holding the straps that loop round from the shoulder bells . . . are they on the original suits? A HD discovery perhaps?
  11. Loking good trooper and that MG-15 is sweet!
  12. Hey Sandyboy, I'd also be very very interested in a kit taken from your awesome ROTJ helmet. I love the look of the ROTJ trooper bucket and its almost impossible to get a decent replica at the moment. The only one I know of is the Oakley though Keith has done jaw dropping work on converting a ANH in the past. Keep us updated mate
  13. When I saw the title of this thread I was hoping to see some concrete evidence proving that the SDS Stunt derives from the original moulds. I suppose I was expecting too much though. All I can say is if I had bought my helmet from SDS directly at his full asking price, (I bought it from a private seller for a little less) I would have demanded a refund. For his prices I'd almost expected the helmet to be fully functional with high resolution HUD, intercom system and plastisteel outer shell . . but I certainly expected it to at least look correct. The very poor back cap is inexcusable and I dont care much for the rest of the helmet either. The details on the face plate arent sharp enough (and mine is fairly low numbered at 102!), it looks too wide and dont even get me started on those ears! The guy is a hack and he is deliberatly making falsified statements in his website to help promote sales.
  14. Cool threrad! Very nice comparison photos. The Gino and the TE are stunningly nice but I dont like the Meatstock at all, the back looks all wrong. The SDS Stunts also has a very inaccurate back, well at least mine does anyway Compare this pic below with the same angle of butcherbird's Gino and TE, the difference is obvious. Look at how it's badly skewed to the left (I know Trooper helmets are known for their assymetry but this is ridiculous) and how flat it is along the bottom. Id love to acquire a Gino someday . . . one can dream I suppose.
  15. I am very impressed by these AP kits, they look awesome Are there any noticable differences in accuracy or quality between the first run of AP kits and the current ones? Great work on the TD and TK, they look straight outta the movies.
  16. I saw this helmet over on the RPF. All I can say is wow!!!! This is a truely amazing aquisition. You mentioned it has been refurbished slightly but still, it is in amazing condition, especially when you compare it with surviving ANH helmets. Any shots of the interior? I have always had a soft spot for the ROTJ troopers because they were the first ones I remember seeing. Man I would give my right arm for a screen used TK helmet! Congratulations buddy, you must be thrilled!
  17. Hey guys . .Im trying to add an image to my signature like many members here have but I cant figiure out what I need to do. Is it the html code thats incorrect or is it something I am doing wrong in my profile edit screen? Many thanks
  18. Any progress on weathering your armor? It would be cool to see pics of your TM armor with the trademark Sandtrooper dirt
  19. I think its great when talented artists produce replicas of great cinema history and popular culture. For many fans, aquirring such a piece is a dream come true. In the case of AA however, I am left feeling rather cynical. I dont believe his Stunt helmet delivered on its promise of uber-accuracy, his prices are in some cases insane, and he could have brought alot of heat on other prop makers given his conspicous method of doing business. He will have done rather well if this case is settled out of court in a mutual agreement and if it does . . .fair play to him. Producing and selling unlicensed products owned by such a large entity as lucasfilm takes some kahuna. Even if the lawyers unearth a legal loophole which gives him intelectual ownership of the Stormtrooper design on the basis of a technicality, the image of the Stormtrooper is one of the most iconic symbols of the Star Wars saga . . everyone knows that. If he had done things more low key I'd be on his side.
  20. I really like seeing comparison pictures of different helmets but I dont think Paul has a case to answer. He has proven himself to be a fantastic artisan and I dont doubt for a second that his faceplate is an original sculpt. Cant we all just get along!
  21. The sharpness of the detail is incredible on the Gino helmet . . . beautiful. My SDS looks very soft in comparison.
  22. Wow, very nice looking helmet. Great work TM.
  23. Since I have decided not to convert my SDS helmet I thought I'd quickly show a pic of my other project. Its not Sandtrooper related (mods feel free ot remove if its not allowed) but it is about weathering a Star Wars helmet Its a fibreglass Bobamaker Fett helmet which I originaly bought to paint up in the ESB scheme. Ive had it laying around for over a year and because I have no previous painting experience I figured I'd paint this as a custom mandalorian to help me learn how to paint. I actually took alot of inspiration from the Sandtrooper look with it being all white and weathered, though the look I'm going for is more rusty than dirty. Its still "in progress" and I will be adding killstripes and clan markings later.
