ECOLI
Ok so I thought this might help people trying to dye their canvas MP40 pouches. I found canvas Mp40 pouches at a local gun show for about $25 which from what I can find is a steal. They were originally a light khaki green. Dyed Black pouches Fiebings Dye They came out great and it is very easy to do. I hit a local Tandy leather and picked up exactly two bottles of "Fiebings" leather dye: color is "USMC Black" it comes with a swab for each bottle and cost about $5 each. The process is easy just swab the dye and dab it on the canvas. The dye tends to soak into the fabric so be cautious it will soak through the material. TD-5069
Thanks for the tip. I have the same pouches I need to dye. Have you washed them? Does the dye run-off any?
ECOLI
Thanks Guys, I am tying to get this all the small pieces ready for that box of fun. That is a good question I have not tried to wash them with the dye and TK-5069 that is a good question I accidentally had a drop of dye on the box when I took the picture and left a black stain on my families table cloth My mother was ******. Anyway, she scrubbed that thing with everything she had and it did not come out and that was a fresh stain so after they dry, my guess would be some would come out but not very much. Ok you have had your pouches dyed for 5 months now Did you wash them ? If so how do they look did it wash out ? If no washing was done do they still leave black stains on things ? Can you give us some pics of how they look now 5 months later I'm asking all this as I am about to dye mine with the same dye you used But if there is a better way with no staining I would like to do that in stead
MHenry
FYI...Leather dye comes as either a water based dye...or a "oil" based dye. The black oil based stuff will dye everything known to man including small children, your hands and blue smurfs...to black Smurfs. If you use the waterbased stuff...it is both safer and more fugitive.
iron ram
Well used the fiebing's leather dye It looks ok Let it sit in the sun for 2 hours Picked up and got black all over my hands So I hung it in my metal shed right next to the roof It was 94* today so in my shed it will be 120 I will leave it there for a few days The guy at the shoe repair shop said it will rub off on you So I may have screwed up he said I should scotch guard. It If it comes off after a few days of drying then I will wash it and see what happens It takes one bottle per pouch

iconoclasta_88
I used regular fabric dye in boiling water... worked perfect for what I wanted. Make it dark green with an oily used look. Here is the thread: http://forum.mepd.net/index.php?showtopic=5511 Warning... Boiling water is to disolve the dye, but leave it to cool a bit cause if it is too hot, it might cause shrinking. Specially in leather pocuhes. Bluey can certify this Sorry bro! Saludos.
iron ram
I put the one with the tool pouch on it in the washer on cold Just to see if the leather dye would come out ( it did ) Then I just left it in my kitchen to dry ( a/c on ) The thing shrank by like a 1/2 inch Even in cold water

Archer
Guys here is what I got from TK409.com website: "The only prep I did to the leather was wipe it clean if it was dusty. Just paint on the leather dye, it dries fairly quickly. After it dries, hold it in the sunlight. If you see green showing through, it may need another coat. Open the flaps and lay out flat, spread out, face down. Cover the back with dye and let dry. Then do the front, starting in the crevices between the pockets. This is done easier by bending it back to spread open the crevices. When dry, spray on the Leather Shene just like you are spray painting. The shene coat is essential; otherwise the dye rubs off easily and all over everything." It Makes sense if the dye is comming off when rubbed and such that the cloth must be "sealed"
