Goodwill boosts sales with online offer

Jan 30, 2012 7:55 a.m.

Goodwill Industries is boosting its charitable work by selling collectibles and antiques online.

The News & Record of Greensboro reports that Goodwill Industries of Central North Carolina is one of a growing number of the non-profit's chapters operating e-commerce sites.

Shoppers place online bids similar to using E-Bay.

Items recently available on the North Carolina-based group's shopping site include a pair of Tony Llama cowboy boots, a set of dolls representing the boy-band New Kids on the Block, and an antique chamber pot.

Goodwill says items that tend to sell well online include jewelry, musical instruments, Harley Davidson items, vintage and leather purses, and Hollywood memorabilia.

What not to donate? Star Wars, Star Trek or NASCAR items.

Profits help Goodwill provide job training and assistance.
