My Attempt at leather mp40 hip pouches

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

At some stage in the future I wish to do a move along trooper :td: So I figured I'd have a go at making the pouches as I know I'll need them :P

I eyed off the dimensions using pictures of Zadokk's pouches as a guide http://forum.mepd.ne...?showtopic=9179

I still need to find some ball fasteners?? (the brass things that hold down the flappy bits) any help would be nice :)

I also used this tutorial as a guide on how to make them http://forum.whitear...showtopic=10986, they have the block of wood inside, so I can not put anything in them... but I do like the shape :)

Total cost to make this so far has been about $1 for the wood, about $15 for the leather and about $4 for two packs of upholstery tacks. I had some contact adhesive laying around so I did not have to buy any of that :P

The block parts are made from kangaroo leather wrapped around wood (42mmx19mm) and the backing sheet, straps and flappy bits are made from a bit thicker leather. All leather was offcuts from a local leather shop.

To me the pouch looks a little long or the flaps look a little short. But it may just be me! I have to honestly say that I've never seen one close up yet. Soon to have one when Z gets a chance to do some more.

But as for the workmanship, looks good! Leather work is not one of my strong suits. Congrats on scatchbuilding it. Never thought about just wraping some blocks of wood! Cudos!

Thanks for the feedback, wish I had access to the big leather supplier so I can have a crack at making some functional ones at a reasonable price :P

I just did a quick photoshop overlay of mine on top of zadokks and my flaps are a bit shorter... So I will make up some more longer ones and see how it looks :)
