My Set for Stun Replica

Recommended Posts

I know, this is a TK! But I thought this could help anyone looking to make a replica, TD or TK. ;)

So, a couple of months ago I got myself a Cap bucket with the idea to make a TK replica. I opted for the iconic Set for Stun bucket or Dave M and decided to make it look as close as possible to the real helmets. For this, I followed Boba Maker's tutorial (that I saved sometime from the web but actually have no idea where I got it from).

Basic steps are:

1. Get the kit and find all the original or replica parts

2. Cut and Trim

3. Assemble

4. Paint with HDPE color (or look alike hehehe)

5. Use liquid latex and white glue to create the chips and leaks

6. Paint interior with red primer

7. Paint it with yellow acrylic paint to give it the texture as if it was handpainted

8. Paint it white

9. Paint details

10. Finish inside and outside detailing and assembling

11. Weathering and aging

So far... I am in step 8 and this is how it looks.

I must say I am very VERY very excited with the results.

It has to dry for about a week before I can work on the next steps, but so far I like how it looks.

:D

What do you think?

It is still in its very basic shape, but I guess you can already see the little details and "surprises" awaiting under the white paint. ;)

This is my second favorite trooper helmet :peace:

My first is the "move along"/RBC. Just love the sleepy eye, wonky mic tips, and the uneven brow, uneven amount of tube stripes - the list goes on! :D

Thx everyone for your kind word and support.

I have very high hopes for this project.

Rolf,

I have a question.

Why do you say it is sad?

I actually painted the helmet with a brush and acrylic paint prior to spraying it white.

I did this for 2 reasons: That is similar to the texture I see on my Gino V2 bucket. And that is what the Boba Maker tutorial showed.

I know that this is not 100% accurate since it is not seen in all original buckets. But as far as I know, some of them did have that texture.

I liked it cause I think it gves it a look and feel of more a hand made handcrafted prop.

But I would really like to know your opinion... and everyone else's too.

Looking top cool, and accurate so far bro.

(its a bit sad there are the brush stripes on it)

Hugs :)

As far as i know, the HDPE helmets was spray painted white, not brushed white.

But great assemble, and details as all ways bro.

Its cool to see your getting stronger, and stronger skills in the hobby.

Hugs :)

Yeah, you are right!

I researched further and it looks like thet ones painted by hand were not from ANH but maybe from ROTJ or even from later publicity stunts or similar.

Too Bad.

Should I take it off?

I really like it...

Looks really good as all ways my friend.

I can´t see from your new pics, if you have redone the brush thing, and spray painted it.

If not, i guess its ok, as it a ANH Stormtrooper helmet, and do not need heavy weathering.

If it was a Sandy helmet, i guess all the dirt would show the brush stripes even more.

Peace out :)

Hey Rolf,

How are you my friend?

I did not re did the paint job.

I think it will look good at the end. Maybe not 100% accurate, but, well... I like the feeling it gives to the bucket.

Lets see...

I do plan to make it look shinny, still dont know how yet. :)

Thx for your input bro!

And... here is a new picture. Not much actually... just, wanted to share.

This project has taken me much more than expected. Being a new dad is sometimes difficult and veeeery time consuming, and also, not been a vacation at work either... but. Here are some more pictures of my progress... very little as always but, hope you like it.

Painted the traps on one side with gray humbrol...

And the blue stripes with humbrol too and TK4510 templates (great templates btw)

Hopefully I can do some real progress this weekend.

Ok...

Here are a few pictures of the bucket now that painting and detailing is done.

All is handpainted, trimmed and assembled by myself, to try to make it look like the Dave M helmet.

Next, making it shinny again, some mods to the inside, and then aging!!!
