Hausi
Hey fellow dirty dudes, I have almost finished my Tunisian DLT. As there are already quite a few build threads, I´ll cut it short, I got the templates from my friend bigwam/Thomas, the barrel is a resin cast from a real sterling which I purchased from a 501st member in Spain. The grips are from Latvia, probably the same as Jcalus/Jon has used for his build. Just as bigwam and Heroma I have glued three pieces of wood together and after a lot of sanding it looked like this: I had to cut the front part apart and added an aluminum dowel the dowel, triggerguard and some greeblies that you normally find on the barrel of the original MG34 before spraypainting the wood, I used this to avoid wood shining through as soon as the part gets its first battledammage soaks into the wood and looks like this afterwards, you can also see in the picture that I´ve added a thread which was screwed into the wood for the wooden cocking lever. After painting the barrel gunmetal, I gave it a wash with a thick mixture of water and acrylic brown and black to emulate the bluing: most of it is dabbed of almost immediately after applying it. T-tracks spraypainted black and finally used Rub´n Buff silver leaf to finish it off and give it that used look: added the wire and here´s the (almost) finished product next pic was taken with the flash on, colour looks different and the bluing effect is more noticeable: I´m thinking about adding some rust and finally giving it a wash with some earth colour... or better leave it the way it is? What do you think? 1
henselmonster
Looks great! Would you happen to have a pattern you used to cut yours? I need to get onto building one of these.
Hausi
Yep, can´t find the positive at the moment but still have the negative as I have cut it out of a piece of thick cardboard. Will PM you.
jcalus
Looks awesome! I wouldn't put any rust on it. The real parts that I used on my last build didn't have any.. Pre treating the wood to that dark colour is a great idea. Really nice work!
Hausi
Thanks Jon! Your build with real MG 34 parts is amazing, would love to do that but parts of the MG 34 have become quite expensive here in Germany. Interesting to know that there's no rust present on your original parts, saves me some time. On the other hand I would love to test my new rust effect paint. Will probably try it on my Bapty E-11. High Speed
I tip my bucket to you, that stock looks really nice.
jcalus
Thanks Urs. The mg parts are pricey and hard to get here in Canada too. We have some strict gun laws... Looking forward to your Bapty build. The paint work you did on the t-21 was excellent!
Hausi
Compared to my rubber foam DLT-19, the Bapty seems quite fragile, that´s why I have bought a case for it ...it´s also a little more subtle when carrying it from the car to the trooping location
