silverboyd
Well, the Shoot-The-Trooper game that I've been planning and organizing for a few months turned out great. A local school here in Charleston, SC (James Island Elementary School), held their annual Fall Festival yesterday which helps to raise money for their PTA as well as money for projects around the school. This time around they were raising money to help pay for a new outdoor classroom. The day was filled with all sorts of booths including: Plinko, local fire departments, jump castles, food and candy vendors, a cake walk and of course...Shoot-The-Trooper. The event lasted 4 hours and I believe we were the most popular booth throughout the day. At one point, they made an announcement on the PA letting people know there were other events going on. Pretty funny. For our game we had (3) types of NERF guns w/ the following donation breakdowns to play: 5 shots for $1....10 shots for $3 and 25 shots for $5. I was surprised how many people paid to shoot the 25-shot blaster. That gun really annihilated us. Especially when getting shot in the helmet. But it was all in fun. We had (3) Nerf Herders loading the blasters, sweeping up the spent darts and taking tickets. It was a well-oiled operation. We played the Star Wars soundtracks in the background to add a little atmosphere. The school gave us lots of leftover Halloween candy to give away as prizes for playing and we also had some of the 501st Imperial Training Manuals to giveaway as well. At 2:00 pm (halfway through the event) we paused the game for 10 minutes to allow us to do a 10-question Star Wars Trivia contest. I had Star Wars coloring books, Star Wars: The Clone Wars kites and a few Star Wars 100-piece puzzles to give away to the winners. The kids loved it. The line never let up and we had a constant group eager to shoot at us. Although we took a few 5-10 minute breaks for water and to take our helmets off in a nearby classroom, this was an exhausting event. But very fun. Thankfully I was able to bring along a few other familiar faces to the Star Wars Universe. A local bounty hunter by the name of Boba Fett as well as a local Jedi came together with the Carolina Garrison to help make this game a great success. Needless to say, this results exceeded my expectations. At the end of the 4-hour event we raised $301 for James Island Elementary School with Shoot-The-Trooper. Here are some pictures and video from the day, enjoy... They love coming to my events and documenting them.

RevWhiteWolf
Looks like a lot of fun. I am sure the kids enjoyed it too. My daughter got to shoot a nerf gun at a scout trooper at The Strong National Museum of Play this year. Of all of the the things she did, she kept talking about shooting the trooper all week, and when we saw the same guy a few weeks ago at the zoo she immediately asked if I thought he was the one she shot. Her continued excitement about that is a large part of why I looked into the 501st to begin with.
