My Prop Droid (Urs inspired!)
Plainsrunner replied to Plainsrunner's topic in Pouches, Pauldrons, and other Accessories
Eyes are installed. They seem super bright with the iphone camera, but they don't in person. Couldn't figure out a way to keep them from seeming overly bright in the picture. You get the idea though: -

Great job! I thought the original weathering looked great. RS Propmasters' weathering is darker like that. I would have been a bit annoyed if I would have been rejected for the RS weathering. Anyway...your new weathering look fantastic. Great job! Congrats!

Yep. I go with it for about an hour, then I take it off for a while, and then I put it back on. lol It's rough! I prefer the look with it on though -- just adds that extra badass to the look.

Anyone know where I can get the 5 ribbed seed tray or the greeblie?

This field pack breaks my back after about an hour though. Not sure if there is anything I can really do about it though.....

Today was the Annual Huntsville Alabama Spina Bifida Bowl-A-Thon. I took the kit out again with some of the fixes from last weekend and they worked. The new field pack buckles worked great, the belt fix held. However, a new problem cropped up -- my mic didn't work. It was charged, the speaker was on, and all of the other basic stuff was correct. It just wouldn't work. I didn't even change any settings since last time -- but it decided it just wasn't going to troop today. So I shall be exploring and troubleshooting my audio issues this week. Anyway, despite the hitch the day was a lot of fun:

Looking far ahead to SWAT level activities, I was eyeballing Filter Pack #5 as I do have a white pauldron along with my Orange. I have a few questions: 1. Filter Pack #5 -- it's good for one of the on-screen Sergeants is it not? 2. When I ordered my seed trays, I was told by the vendor that the #5 uses all 3 line trays, however I have seen other #5 pack builds here have a combo of 5 and 3. Which is right? 3. I just noticed a long square object that is affixed to the right of the Tupperware container. I can't seem to get a clear idea of what this is -- unless it's something that I will need to have 3D printed? 4. The siphon. I ordered my siphon from RWA Creations and it came as uncut plastic in two halves. Any tips on how to get this thing together so that it looks correct? Glue? I was a bit surprised when it came this way as I thought it was going to be in 1 piece.

*DONE* TD-89161 Requesting Deployment
Plainsrunner replied to Olympus's topic in MEPD Police Officer Program
Don't the requirements morph and change as new CRL discoveries are made? Perhaps that is what you are seeing Mike. -

So here it is: my build thread of my prop droid. Big thanks to Hausi for the inspiration and idea! We all struggle with what to do when we aren't allowed to bring our blasters to a troop! This thread is a documentation of my C3PO head construction. Goals: wires coming out of the neck, working eyes, and a sound loop of him saying things from the movies. I'm thinking about carrying it in net too.... so that it looks like I'm carrying him back to base or something. I have to think on that and get just the right net though. Anyway.... After seeing Urs' thread about his R2 head, I was incredibly lucky to find this accurate scale C3PO fiberglass head: Now let me say that most people who build C3PO replicas go for chrome finish. They do this because they are going for the so-called 'throne room' look after he was repaired and polished to a high shine. I'm going for 'just got caught by a Sandtrooper patrol on Tatooine after wandering the desert' look. Therefore, painting him the right metallic gold color is my first step without worrying about the high reflective chrome shine. Here he is after initial painting: So now I will be waiting a few days for him to completely dry. After that I will weather him. I haven't completely decided how I'll do it yet. Still thinking about it. Electronics in the form of sound and eyes will come after that. Final step will be wires protruding out of the bottom of the neck. What do you guys think? Follow up progress posts to follow in the coming days.

Where did you get that helmet suspension from (I think that's what it's called -- the harness thing I was referring to)? -

*also I've considered ditching the bracket, but I love the built in buttons to control the fans -

Does the helmet harness thing help you have some articulation with the helmet? I have padding up there and I can't control my helmet at all except with the strap which I'm not crazy about. -
Probably. Saves me the trip though. Also I'll have cans for touch up in the future.

You can easily use imgur.com to show your pics in this thread. That's the site I use for it. -
Couple more photos. Keen eyes will notice my shoulder pouch slipping down in the second one. That's another costume glitch I'm working on now.

Official Troop #1. Our Garrison was contacted by the 42nd OSS at Maxwell Airforce Base in Montgomery Alabama. We were asked to help them out with a video they are producing, and several of us answered the call of duty. I learned several things on this troop: 1. My belt is too small. It was too small when they sent it to me because I've lost a couple pounds since. One of our handlers fixed it with a velcro shim so that it would stay on. I've either got to get another belt, continue to use the shim, or lose some more weight. 2. The right side release buckle on my field pack is bad and won't hold. My pack started coming off after filming several scenes. In two of the three photos below you will notice I don't have my pack on. I had to ditch it the rest of the day since it wouldn't stay on. I've ordered black aluminum replacements. THOSE should stay on. 3. I really need to find the magic mix for my helmet. I still don't have any amount of articulation with the helmet. It essentially just sits on me without me being able to turn it at all. Would a band like the kind that are in hardhats work?

R2 Trophy (something to carry around if no weapons are allowed)
Plainsrunner replied to Hausi's topic in Off Topic Cantina
You did! My wife just shook her head when I told her what I'd ordered. lol -
Got it. Ordered. It was cheaper to get a case of 6 rather than 2 cans. No worries though. It's always handy to have touch up paint available.
