  1. I think it looks great now, I'm excited to see it with the ears on, keep up the great work Paul! @welshchris77, sadly Paul is right, RS hasn't done any more of those helmets... I would have given quite a lot to get an RS HDPE helmet.
  2. Hi Paul, the allignment looks almost perfect now and I know how hard it can be to get this right. I don´t want to be a pain in the ... and I know that I´m a bit fussy about this but have a look at these comparisons: in these pics you can see that the front trap overlaps the eye quite a bit while the ear is set back a little further, so it doesn´t meet the the line I have drawn from the trap at the top in the middle which is actually the case with your ear: I think taking everything apart again and making a new allignment will be quite difficult now, especially as the trap and eye allignment on the other side is good, so I don´t know if I would suggest that. I think it looks good the way you´ve built it.
  3. Looks amazing, great work! Is it sturdy enough for trooping?
  4. Hi Chris, the UP80 you already have looks cool too, especially knowing that you got it from your parents' old house, that's great! The UP85 should be okay, most important thing is that it looks right with all the other elements of the pack, e.g. the height of the radio, but I guess the difference to the UP90 will be rather small. 50 Dollars posted seems a fair price, considering that UP 90 and 100 are sold for premium prices nowadays.
  5. That dome nut looks good to me.
  6. That's a brilliant idea and a good result. Thumbs up.
  7. My wife got the orange one from her mother when she moved out and it's still in use. One other thing that just came to my mind: I wouldn't use a cd on the back as those are very brittle and you will probably hit something with it when trooping. I cut mine from a 2mm black ABS sheet, I used a cd as template though.
  8. So here´s the size comparison I had promised, on the left you find the same lid Chris has used for casting (mine is orange though), in the middle is a white tupperware sunshine lid (already dirty as I had it on my very first pack) and on the right there is the translucent sunshine lid. You can see that the size is virtually identical although the shape looks just so slightly different.
  9. Chris's original yellow lid is a different part, I have a similar orange box for vegetables or fruit, can post some comparison pics to the tupperware sunshine lid tomorrow. However, Chris's cast part looks right and obviously has the right size. In ANH they used the tupperware sunshine lids in two different colors, some were white and some were rather translucent. So the white resincast absolutely works for PO level. For SWAT, it depends what radardish was used on the original screen used pack.
  10. Nice work! I've seen vacformed ones before but they were always lacking the sharp details, your casts are great, how much do they weigh?
  11. This specific trooper is more commonly known as the "Move Along" Captain, or Roadblock captain. His shoulder pouch is made of canvas, just as the pouches that RS provides with its complete commissions. There are two different versions of this trooper and the differences are mainly about the pouches and handguards. Have a look at this thread to see those differences : Here are Kainan's and my own SWAT application, we both have applied for the same trooper but the two different versions: Cheers mate
  12. Man, I've built and painted quite a lot of helmets but I still fear painting the tubestripes The Humbrol paint takes a long time to dry. Let it dry completely and then you can do a little touch-up work with some Ral 9016 (I've bought a little can at Obi for these occasions). After weathering, no one 's going to notice. As for the number of tubestripes, that' s up to you, you don't need the same number on both sides, the famous "Move Along" helmet for example has 16 stripes on the left side and 13 on the right. Nice work with the traps and tears.
  13. I have to admit that I haven't spent too much time in getting to know all the nooks and crannies of those special edition troopers, I think the best advice is to get into contact with @MrFlavaFlave, he has already spent a lot of time in researching all the details of said trooper. Oh yeah, forgot about that, you would also need a backpack.
  14. Sure thing mate, Ross is an amazing guy and his tutorials are great. I haven't watched his TK tutorials but as long as you know what to pay attention to, it should be fine. I think such tutorial videos are especially useful to learn where to trim and how to glue.
  15. I think you can sand down the returnedge at the bottom of your chest a little more, the scews I'm talking about are really small. You can find them in the second picture in this thread, encircled in red. You can add foam on the inside of your armor wherever you like, as long as it remains invisible. I for example have added foam on my shins and thighs, to make it more comfortable but also to keep the sniper knee from getting stuck inside the thigh, works brilliantly.
  16. Hi Morgan, I can already say that you have the right size and built to become a cool Sandtrooper too. The Armor seems to fit quite well. Now if I have a closer look at your gear, I will have to point out some major issues/concerns. First of all your helmet: the black series helmet can't be used to build an A New Hope Sandtrooper, not even when using putty to close those gaps/holes. If you want to use it for building a trooper as seen in Rogue one (Jedha) or Solo (Mimban) it's okay, but then you will need a different armor as those troopers' armor is considerably different. Your present armor also wouldn't work for the original A New Hope Sandtroopers as it uses the overlap method to join the two halves (e.g. The thighs or shins) which was only later on used in Return of the Jedi and not the required but joint and coverstrip method. However, you now that there are still the special edition sandtroopers, added later to the movie and your armor would mostly work for that kind of trooper, here's an example of someone planning to create this trooper: So you would probably have to change some things on your armor and you would need a new Return of the Jedi style helmet. Hope this helps, take your time to do some research and don't give up the hope of joining the 501st, it's not as difficult as you might think. Cheers mate.
  17. Looks already really good Luke, good work. I have never worked on Andy's armor before but from the look of it, I think you can cut where the red line is. As far as the returnedges are concerned, in general less is more, because if you have a very large returnedge first it might be uncomfortable when trooping and second, it is a lot more prone to cracking. But don't cut away too much on the chest bottom returnedge as you will have to put the little screws there to emulate the original bracket strapping required for PO. You don't have to have this original type of bracket strapping but the screws will have to be there.
  18. Hey Matteo, you don't have to get a new blaster, your blaster looks pretty good, may I ask what it is based on? 3D printed or a pipe-build? You just have to turn around the scope and add the Hengstler counter and the power cylinders. For the backpack, just take your time and try to build it yourself, in the end this will be very rewarding and probably cheaper than simply buying a completed pack. There are many good sources for the required parts in Europe, for example Sonixworld from Italy makes an amazing Radio. While building your pack, you can already be trooping and enjoying your Sandtrooper.
  19. I also have a 4 hour drive to Speyer but it's absolutely worth it, trust me, was also my first event I attended before becoming part of the 501st. When you spot us, come on over and speak to us.
  20. Hi Matteo, welcome to the MEPD and thank you for your interest in becoming a deployed Police Officer. We, the MEPD DOs, take a lot of time reviewing the applications here and providing advice where needed and we really enjoy doing this. But we also expect the applicants to do their homework and we highly recommend not rushing anything, so please take your time to do some research here on the forum. Please have a look at this thread in which you will find the requirements for PO and study them carefully: After having read the requirements, you will realize that you need a backpack to apply for PO. I also suggest to have a look at some of the tidy application threads e.g. Cheers mate
  21. Hi Luke und willkommen im MEPD! Always great to see new future Sandtroopers from Germany. Your armor looks great, good choice. Always feel free to ask questions, you'll see that the MEPD is quite an active detachment and you can find all the answers here, just take your time to browse through all the interesting and informative threads first. You shouldn't add mesh behind the frown if you plan to go for PO as it's not screen accurate. Have a look at this thread where you find all the requirements for PO: By really sticking to these rules you can avoid having to buy stuff twice or making any unnecessary mistakes. But first and foremost, take your time and enjoy your build. Looking forward to seeing your progress mate.
  22. Hi Andi, great to see you here again with your second SWAT-application! As far as I can recall, you are the second trooper ever to have attempted this challenge. I will be taking care of your review and I can already tell that the trooper you are emulating is immediately recognizable, well done! But as with previous troopers: I have to already point out that your backpack frame is not going to work for SWAT. It has to be a genuine Karrimor frame or something similar. So you could actually also try to blend in the connectors connecting the frame piping by using bondo. Also the top of your frame is supposed to look like the real thing. I will have a closer look at the rest of your application asap. Cheers mate
  23. Hey Paul, hearing that you are going for SWAT is great mate! Your helmet already looks really promising, keep in mind that the right ear is a lot closer to the tear than the left one. Looking forward to seeing your progress.
  24. Beautiful pictures Thomas, some pics seem almost like art (at least to my crazy mind)
