good points well made. i guess i'll have to just try and ignore the one-up-manship mentality and get from it what i need.
i have no doubt that we all owe these guys a debt of thanks for the kits we own but c'mon, the secrets and lies that surround this subject are so complex i'm beginning to feel i cant trust what any of them say (Guns and TM NOT included. top boys both)
i'm beginning to think that some people are only interested in the Kudos and will try to ****** it at any cost, the sale of armour is secondary to them. to be the first to discover something and in some cases NOT tell us, just hint at it is BS.
i even had a particular armour maker from a european country recently tell me that HIS armour had been recast by just about everyone while standing there picking holes in my AP kit i felt the need to tell him go away. there are only a handfull of people in this community that i have great respect for and could hold a conversation with without getting annoyed and a lot of them are here
but hey, MEPD ROCKS
Can i get a hallelujah?

good luck on that one.
i'm trying to see it from both sides point of view but i'm afraid i cant get my head that far up my jacksy
seriously, i'd thought we'd have all learnt by now to just not open that can of worms.
i dont know who to believe and now frankly i just dont care. never did to start with if truth be told. As soon as you say 'armour history' the egos kick off and nobody gets any more information than they did last time and toys get thrown out of the pram and hey-presto another forum tainted. bloody shame if you ask me that newbies have to witness two grown men arguing online about it like a couple of teenage school girls.
If you ask me, who needs a history lesson when the teachers cant decide who's account is the real account.
still, waddyagonnado huh?
-
i think ego may well get in the way of any real facts. Still, one can hope for the truth to surface.
dont hold your breath though.

that is rinky dink dude and you thought you couldnt do it. how chuffed do you feel now hey? i look forward to seeing you with all the gear on soon

So, I was just looking through old threads and how HILARIOUS are the last too comments in retrospect. Ten days later the wife walked out.
sorry to here that mate.
i feel like some kind of evil soothsayer now, maybe i should be carefull what i say in the future

Ah, Paul, just in the nick of time .
i use elastic for all strapping as it makes everything feel a little more free moving but it all springs back into shape after i've straightened up. (i can bend down and pick things up off the floor at a stretch, although it doesnt look or feel comfortable).
okay, using TM's diagram to explain, strap A behind the neck, strap D sewn to A and going down your front and attaching to belt. mine differs slightly as strap A also attaches to the biceps but just experiment until something feels right
-
apart from not being able to see much anyway, the fumes from E6000 will probably make your eyes water for a bit and your headspin a little. i'd go hot glue for any lid glueing.
-
is the actual strap slipping down your back? if this is the case you could sew a little square of velcro on the strap and just below the neck of the bodysuit. this should stop it moving.
my strapping setup utilises one strap across my shoulders for the bells, another strap sewn to this strap draped over my shoulders and this then fastens to my belt, this prevents the the belt from being pulled down and the shoulder strap slipping back. does that make sense?
there is a thread somewhere on here with a great diagram from trooper master showing his strapping system, mine is based on this and works a treat.

my ugly mug would be the last thing that any drunk trying to steal my bucket should be worrying about. getting a gut full of BFG, or a major imperial pimphand to the face.

I'm just waiting on my new lid,
it's getting closer, not too long to wait mate:y:

loving the clone there dude. this is my next big project so can you tell me what materials and techniques your employing as i really like the way you've achieved the genuine wear and tear look without it looking too contrived?
-
good work Angelo fella. welcome to the sandpit by the way dude.
-
AWESOME!! It's great to see someone actually studying the thighs properly and getting it right they are the best looking i've seen so far. nice lines, contour, shape etc.
-
They only have bike troopers there. They look like sandtroopers except they don't wear leg armor, just white spandex shorts.
and they have mirrored lenses and an unfortunate crud stain on the helmet that looks like a handlebar moustache.
-
any photos of you tearing around a forrest on a mountain bike fully kitted are truly welcome my biker brother
-
i did consider kitting up and tearing through the local forest on my mountain bike but i'm sure it would of ended in tears and broken bones/armour
-
just as a side note i would avoid using the colours us sandies use as they are specific to sand and dusty conditions.
for my biker i thought about what was gonna make my scout dirty for example bike oil/breakfluid, grass and mud stains and branch/twig/dead bugs at high speed.
i used heavy black inked newspaper for an overall grimey appearence which from your pics you've already got. i used nature to achieve most of the other effects i.e. jumping around in muddy puddles with me boots on and getting a lump of wet grass and vigourasly rubbing it on certain areas. i also trid to get the branch scrape effect by using newspaper again but scratching it across the lid and armour parts with my nails instead of just rubbing (it results in clearly visible scratch marks)
i finished off by using grey and brown powdered pigment blown on various areas and sealed with hairspray for oil and bike fluid spray. another good trick is muddy water in one of those evian water bottles with the drinking nozzle. give it a good squeeze and it sprays out on your desired armour part a treat. let it dry and it looks like high speed gunk.
just get creative but dont go too overboard is my tip for the day.

good work fella, welcome to the ranks.
-
looking good there trooper. AP fits you really well mate and the weathering is great. i'd maybe rub off some dirt from a few key raised areas for a little contrast but thats just me.
my main question is, wheres ya backpack?

he was told in no uncertain terms that he had no rights whatsoever and was'nt allowed to contact anyone.
he wasn't too bitter about it, lesson learned and all that but it does make you think about how an innocent act can be traced so effectively and dealt with so harshly. all because of an innocent ebay purchase.
to be honest i always get stopped at immigration cos i just look like trouble so i'm used to it but when you're removed from a line because you're a specific target it's scary.
-
When some of my Garrison came over to the States for C4, two of us were dragged out of the line at immigration and heavily scrutinized. i was one of them and after some serious intimidation i was let back in the line. The other guy was led away to a room for further questioning.
We didnt see him again until we got home ten days later.
It transpires that he had been flagged up on entry as being on the terrorist list because he bought a part for an E-11/sterling from a guy on Ebay who was wanted by the F.B.I. or some such organisation because he was know to re-activate weapons and sold firing pins and trigger mechanisms etc. our lad had apparently been arrested in England, questioned about firearms and the selling of bla blah and released without charge however the U.S.A. immigration dept decided he was a threat to national security and put him on a plane back home with no hope of ever returning to the States for at least ten years.
Now our guy is just a model maker StarWars nut. He was with a group of people all carrying stormtrooper costumes with replica firearms he was in no way a threat to national security but this little purchase he made has buggered his chances of ever going Stateside so i think this policy is coming in a little too late, for many more people than just my Garrison member i'm sure.

nice one Jens, great work there buddy

i think if you've padded your helmet sufficiently i.e, top, back and sides and its a snug fit then you shouldnt need the chin strap. if you've used the leaf shaped foam as per the movie used helmets then the strap stops the lid wobbling about as this foam insert just makes the lid sit higher on the head but offers no real "grip" if you know what i mean.

how's Oz doing Mike?, he bunked with us Brits @C4, he's a top bloke. one of the best Jangos out there

Mike, you're totally right and i know this has also come up before but artistry plays a bigger part in my mind. to me it's less about where the armour came from and more about what the individual does with it in a creative manner. I'm sure you'll agree that we've seen awesome costumes here for example and the work thats gone into them is immense and i for one dont care if it's TE, FX, AP or whatever else as a base kit, it's been made to look outstanding. Take also your recent foray into clone sculpting. fantastic artistry, by your own hand using your own attention to detail. THATS worth shouting about.
Top marks also to you for speaking out about TM's faceplate. These guys cant stand the fact that someone has pulled off something they can only dream about and all they can do to draw the attention back to them is question its authenticity. MonCal has also been a victim of this and it makes me really angry. it really is time the prop community just simply ignore them and let them fight it out amongst themselves so we can all continue to help each other in a positive light.
can i get an Amen?
