  1. My ultimate goal was to eventually go to SWAT, but at this point I kind of just want to get into the 501st and then deployed. It's something I've wanted to do for a while and just kinda anxious and ready to get my armor. But I will dig into it a bit more and try to find it. I forgot to mention that I have asked the person who assembled my armor for me if he could do the weathering and he agreed, so I don't want to be sending him the wrong pictures for reference. Obviously he can't weather my pauldron, pack, or pouches, as I have them, but I'd like my armor to at least be ready for the Cantina Captain, that way I can get deployed and work on the other parts myself. And thanks for the guidance. One of the reasons I want to be a part of MEPD. Everybody seems kind and helpful
  2. Ah okay, thank you very much. I found that sight but called my searching for the day off before getting too far. I knew I was obviously looking for a Captain in the Cantina scene, but as I for some reason don't have that movie in my collection yet, I couldn't go back and watch it, and I couldn't find any like that in the Photo Gallery Reference Guide. I do appreciate that. I edited it in, I realize I didn't say which guy in the second picture I thought it was, but it is there now. So it appears that I was correct on my guess?
  3. Hello, it has been a while since I have been back on the site. I started the entire process to become a part of the 501st and ultimately the MEPD a little over a year ago, but, things came up, and i ended up pushing the project aside for a while/forgetting about it. But now I have the time to go back to it, and everything is just about done. The last thing that needs to be done to my knowledge is the weathering. I had intended to go with the Cantina Captain's armor, which leads into my question, is this my guy? I looked through the Photo Gallery Reference Guide and this was the picture I found that really jumped out at me, so to say, as yes, this is the right guy. It appears as though he may have a, smear as I shall call it, on the right side of his chest. This lead me to believe that he is the same as this guy on the right And if this is the case, I may be able to find him better in other scenes with the clarity of the second picture. As I understand it, the same troopers are in different scenes as different troopers, their gear has changed, but their armor is the same. Correct me if I am wrong though. Thanks ahead of time to those that take your time to read this! Oh, and sorry if the images are overwhelmingly large, I've never really dealt with images in a post before, so it took me a bit just to figure out how to even get them there -_-
  4. I recently acquired one for my build and it's awesome
  5. So, I am now in the process of receiving a neck seal (maybe an inch, if that, too big, but should be fixable if it is) and already weathered boots (courtesy of Dirt Bag), my Move Along Pack, and my Pauldron. I think all I have left after getting that in is the MP40 pouches and the actual armor to arrive. It's starting to look like I just may have this done by the time I wanted it done
  6. Okay, thanks guys. The guy (Dirt Bag, that's his username by the way, not an insult, just to clarify) that I'm getting them from told me when he got them they were from an MEPD member I believe and he was told they were TK boots. Obviously you can't take somebody on their words alone always, but they looked the part. My main concern was having to strip the weathering if they wouldn't work. But even if so shouldn't be too hard
  7. So, I know that you should generally stay away from ebay, but I went as a last ditch effort to try and find a set of white Chelsea/Johdpur boots, and I found these. Now first, these aren't those funtasma ones or anything. Far as I can tell, real deal TK boots. http://m.ebay.com/itm/301034314250?nav=SEARCH&sbk=1 If not, I have found another set as well. So what think you guys?
  8. I had seen the advice towards those people for the equipment, but I just wanted to be sure I wasn't overlooking some underdog, so to say, that does good work but isn't well known. I will definitely look at those suppliers though. Starting contacting people tonight. I appreciate the friendliness of everybody here, and I can't wait to be part of this group (assuming I get accepted that is). One more thing, what do you guys think of the Bass Amsterdam boots? I already purchased a set that wasn't trooper friendly so to say, thankfully I can still return them, but I don't want to make the same mistake again. I know they are cheaper boots, but I also don't see a reason to drop a lot if I won't be wearing them much (then again, I don't know how often people tend to dress, and I would definitely love to go out and represent MEPD.)
  9. So, as the title states, the armor build starts. Well, armor build may not quite be right at the moment. My armor should be on it's way within a few weeks. But I figured it's time to start gathering all the pieces I need and to start a topic for a WIP once I actually get started. I will do my best to update with photos and what not once I start. I will be going for the Cantina Captain, so any and all help will be welcome, as this is my first armor build. Figured why be shiny and clean? Dirty is the way to go, may as well do it first since it's what I want. Vern will be assembling my armor (I very much appreciate this, by the way) and I will be finishing it up I do believe. Currently I have: DLT-19 Undersuit I know I am going to need: 2x 3 slot mp40 pouches 1 3 slot mp40 and tool pouch 1 Orange pauldron 1 "move along" pack My question about the pauldron, is there any out there that is preferred for those of S.W.A.T. status? As this is what I will ultimately be aiming for. Also, about the pack, I've been researching, and I still have more research to do, but, would I be better of buying a pre-made pack/ unassembled pack or would I be better of making it myself. I have seen a few how-tos on making it yourself, but I have also seen that they can be shy of fully screen accurate. Now, obviously for the price you pay, they aren't bad packs. But, again, I will be going for S.W.A.T. status, so I believe that it is better to get it right now instead of just scrapping one together that won't work for S.W.A.T. I will be talking with Vern on other parts and what not, and I will provide an update with current equipment/equipment I need to get after talking to him. Also, I will cross reference everything on the lists I find so that I'm not asking for information on parts that are already listed. This may be wishful thinking, but I'd love for the armor to be in a wearable state by early January if possible. I'll just have to see how things go along though.
  10. "Your heel may be a little higher than mine, it's hard to tell. The hardest part about modifying you boots would be to get rid of that skin-like texture and make them smooth. I've never tried dying or painting these types of boots, so that may be hard too. I'm not sure how well paint would stick to those. I guess my final answer would be, if they were smooth and white, and I really couldn't tell mch of a difference, I would say they were okay. If they still had that texture, I wouldn't be able to pass them. I hope this helps." Words straight from my GML. So, I'd assume with that I would clear and make 501st with these? My next question is, would these be SWAT approved. I will be going for SWAT and quite honestly it is a waste of my time for me to spend much more effort on these boots if they won't.
  11. So I have found a shoe repair shop, (the only one less than 50 miles away), but about how much do you guys think should come off? I can't walk in and ask them to just shorten it and leave I'd assume, I would think they would need to know how much. And my question with the heel height is, the CRL says "short" heels. when I thought of high heels on these boots, I thought of something like these - http://www.net-a-porter.com/product/383718?cm_mmc=polyvore-_-cpc-_-boots-_-http://www.net-a-porter.com/product/383718. This isn't to be rude or mean, but I haven't found any numerical value for the height a heel should be on a troopers boots. I guess I'm just not getting why what I have is too high. But, I will continue looking and checking for relative/exact heights for the heels and what not. I appreciate the help from everybody.
  12. Sadly, I live in East Bejeesus Middle of Nowhere, so there are no close by shoe shops that I know of. I think the closest thing we have is a few Payless Shoes in each direction, at least 35 min. away. I'm not opposed to the drive but I don't think they are what you meant by a shoe shop. But that is a good idea. I will start looking around to see if there are any around here somewhere.
  13. That was my fear. Would I be better off taking them back or could they be modified enough to look proper without messing the look up
  14. I don't know how to get better quality, I took them off my phone and it saved them as 1.5mb or so each file, so I had to look around to figure out how to scale them down. But I can always email the original photos or any other way that you guys know of. I think I may have stumbled upon a decent find here though if these are right, because they seemed a bit abundant where I got them, but I can't find a trace of them anywhere online.
  15. So, I was out and about today for guitar strings and figured, why not stop and look around for different parts for my TD suit I'm working on. I know that Chelsea and Johdpur boots are acceptable, but, these weren't really labeled as either. I found them in the women's section at Marshalls. I was with some friends and upon comparing those on the 501st's TD CRL and what I had in my hand, they looked right. I'm asking you guys first though so I don't start scrubbing acetone over them and wait for white dye to come in if they're the wrong style or if something is off with them.
  16. Hello everyone. I'm Eric Cedeno, currently residing in Upstate New York. Not currently registered, but ordering my kit within the week and hopefully I'll be applying to be a certified TD in about 7 weeks if all goes well
  17. See, that is what I am thinking of doing, or weathering on my own, I just wasn't sure if you can strip the weathering since I'm not familiar with it. It's one of the only things I actually haven't looked into yet, so I probably should. But I was going to go for SWAT first because I assume SWAT eligible armor would be Police eligible armor, but since I'm not locked into the weathering that goes on first, so it would seem at least?, I will do that most likely.
  18. Is it possible to get the best of both worlds so to say? I'm rather picky and if something were off, I'm sure many people wouldn't notice it, but it'd still irk me some. But if I were to have to sacrifice some accuracy for comfort, I'd probably do that. As for the type of troop, I do believe I will be going with the Cantina Captain. I agree, it was a bit lacking on detailed info, and I have seen some really good how to's on the FISD forums as well. As for the height, I am not and never will be Hightower. lol. But I am looking at getting some of those soles that increase your height, just so I am a bit taller and match the 5'6" 5'7" troopers better. And yea, it is quite a bit to drop on a bunch of plastic, but, I have always thought it'd be awesome to be a Trooper, and now that I have found out that there is actually a legion and sub groups of people that do this, I want to be part of it, and I think that it is entirely worth it to be helping people (through the donations the 501st generates for charities) or just showing up with a group of Troopers to make an impression. I've done quite a bit of research (imo), and I came down to deciding between RS and AP. I myself couldn't tell much of a difference (I won't say I'm great, but I've gotten to where I can tell roughly when armor is rather good and when it has been slapped together and is low quality), so I very well may have missed some of the finer aspects, but, I think I'm just going to go with a standard TD for now, as it is a just a bit cheaper, so I'm good with it. I believe I will be getting an AP TD set, and I'm contemplating having the kit sent to the guy that Mark works with to assemble and weather the suit for me. I know it's not the same as making it yourself, but I plan on making another suit in the future, and I'm probably going to go with Commander Deviss or a 327th Star Corps. Trooper, and I will be doing everything but making the kit myself there hopefully. I do have one question though about weathering. Assuming I do have somebody else do it for me, but I then later wanted to apply for S.W.A.T. status (assuming everything goes well and I make 501st approval and Officer status), could I strip the weathering and redo it to be character specific? Or am I locked in to that weathering, so to say. And all of this may change. I may assemble it entirely myself. I'm to the point that I WILL be getting a kit and becoming a TD, just a matter of time and what I do myself. Personally, what do you guys think about having it assembled by somebody else? If you don't mind me asking. And again, I greatly appreciate how helpful and kind everyone is here. It seems like a great thing to be a part of.
  19. I will definitely get to that. Combed through the forums some, but I overlooked that. Difference between Captain, Sergeant, and Private is mainly the pauldron color, correct? Orange, white, then black, respectively. I'd also assume a a rank designated on the the ears of the helmet, from what I have read, though I could be wrong there. To answer that, I am most likely going for SWAT. I am going to be trying to get level 3 certification through the 501st, so I don't see why it'd hurt to put a bit more work into it when I'm already doing so much. I have been through there a few times. I contacted Rob with the RT armor, but he believes that his armor would probably not suit me best as I am too small. Being just shy of 5'5" and 115 pounds on a good day, I can see why. I have made my way to the RS homepage, and, I'm not sure about the price there. That's mainly because out of all of the vendors I've seen two with actual prices, MTK (on Ebay) and RS (on their page). As for finished suits, it'd be nice, but I can make them myself (he says hesitantly). I just don't want to screw up and cut to short or glue and then realize it's wrong. Really the only thing I'd want assembled if doable would be the helmet, but I think I could do that myself as well. I found this site, http://www.tkryno.com/, which details a guy who makes his armor, and it has been a bit helpful. After some searching I found out he made it and became a 501st member. I am about to start contacting the other vendors after I post this, but, is there any particular make of armor that people prefer over the other? I just don't want to get one armor when a different set works better during conversion or something along the lines of this. Next, I apologize for the delay in my response, and I apologize if I've put this in the wrong area or anything. This is my first time on a forum where I found myself in the situation that a post would do me well so this is the first time I've actually done it. So I'm still kind of bumbling around trying to get the feel for it. I do appreciate the help you guys are giving me though. MEPD seems extremely polite and kind so far and that makes me want to be a part of it that much more. One last thing, is there a major difference between Stunt and Hero? I know that the eyes, gloves, and where the holster attaches are different, and I'm sure there are other minor differences, but is it better to be one over the other?
  20. So confused with where to start this project....

  21. Okay, so, I will start off by apologizing if I have overlooked the info I am trying to find, but after spending about 3 days digging around everywhere, I just have no clue where to start. I should say that I would definitely like to be part of the 501st, and also the MEPD possibly. I want to build a suit but I have no clue where to start. I have seen the guidelines that 501st has on suits, and how they must meet certain requirements for different level certifications, so I know that I can't get in with some cheap suit that no time was spent on. But the closest I have come to this is working on a Pepakura helmet based off of a Spartan helmet from Halo. So, where, or should I say, how, do I start? Do I need to purchase a kit or something of the likes that comes with most of the parts, which I have seen a few of, or am I supposed to hand make all of this stuff..? And if I do need to buy a kit, what would an overall guesstimate be on the price? My reason for asking is that I don't want to pay X and have to do a lot myself vs paying maybe a little more than X and having less to do. I'm up for creating this, but I don't want to spend a lot on something and end up screwing it up since it's my first go. Any help would be greatly appreciated
