  1. Howdy from FL!

I had the privilege, along with several of our MEPD brothers, to participate in this year's Christmas parade at "The Mouse". It was a bunch of fun...quite a bit of walking, and we were buckets on for a stretch of close to an hour in 85+ degree heat...which in FL feels much hotter due to humidity. Anyway, thought I'd share some pix (courtesy of my garrison mate Randy N.)...here's to the dirty ones having a blessed and safe 2016!

  2. Hey there,

I just have a couple of questions that I haven't been able to get answered by intense lurking alone.

    - I have not been able to find a tutorial for building sandtrooper armor. I am not 100% sure on how different it is from stormtrooper ones. If they are similar, should I just follow the tutorials on whitearmor.net?

    - I have ordered RT-Mod, and his expected finish time for my order is November. Does RT-Mod have anything different from the usual builds that I should know about?

    - Are blaster scar/scorch marks allowed for approval? I'd like one across the eye, like the stormtrooper commander (but less lengthy of course).

More questions may pop up, but they are the ones I haven't been able to find answers for so far!

    Thanks in advance :)

You've come to the right place! There are far more knowledgable folks here than me on TDs but you should be fine.

Very little difference in the main components of a sandtrooper build vs. a stormtrooper...but there are a number of differences in the finer details...check the "Costume Reference Library" for more information. Whitearmor.net is great plus look at this area to get started...

The main thing to keep in mind when buying a kit is that some them are a better fit for a particular size person...if you're average (IMO) that means 5'9 - 6'1 for a male and 150 - 210 then almost all the commonly available kits should work...if you're on the smaller side then you'd want to avoid those kits that have been intentionally made for the bigger trooper and vice versa.

Weathering/battle damage is required for sandies...just consult the threads that address this as to how much :)

Best of luck - you'll find the MEPD crowd very friendly and helpful.

    Now go get dirty!

  3. So I'm thinking to myself...self, time for a change - something simpler. How about a Sandy...they're classic - obviously cooler than a garden variety TK...got to be easier than all the other things I've built... Ha! :6:

My self-imposed deadline for my build was C6. I honestly couldn't have done this without the amazing resource that MEPD is and especially tutorials I found from Bluey, Panda Trooper and others.

I've learned a bunch - have aspirations for SWAT eventually...but must crawl before walking, walk before running.

Here's the final product - my STS Capt. (still will tweak up to C6):

Helmet - eFX (heavily modified...ears & mic tips from UK, S strip from vintage gas pump business (can't remember name))

    Armor - AM

    Boots - TK Boots

    Pauldron - Trooper1

    Gloves/handguards - Trooperbay

    Pouches - Captsafe66

    T21 - Slavefive (lightest he's ever made)

Still need brad (?) for cod and fans for bucket...please - if you have suggestions for making this better pass them along.

The pix make my legs appear bigger than they really are - the kit yields wider parts vs. more round...if that makes sense.

Thanks again for the assistance my dirty brethren :td:

  4. It's not supposed to be symetrical, but you can have it centered if you want. I like to have 3 blocks to the inside of the thigh and 2 to the outside with the thigh joining strip lining up between bocks 2 + 3, just as it looks in the photo you posted.

Thank you Sir! That's what I'm planning to do too...just wanting to "measure twice, cut once :)"

  5. Howdy MEPD brethren!

I'm getting close to posting some pix of my build...should be crossing the finish line just in time for C6.

I do have a question though regarding the battery/ammo pack at the bottom of the right thigh...is it suppose to be symmetrical?

I'm building the STS Capt. and from the screen grabs (thanks "Look Sir droids") it appears that the middle box/rectangle is more to the wearer's left (viewer's right) and not lined up with the cover strip on the thigh...

Since this piece gets riveted in place I'd like to be sure I'm getting it right :)

Many thanks for any and all responses.

  6. Many thanks Brian - I live in Florida and we've been hammered...my town is the sink hole capital of the western hemisphere and it has bordered on apocalyptic for many with flooding, downed trees, no electricity and in some cases loss of life.

Appreciate the concern, well wishes and prayers.

    Geoff
