  1. I feel bad about resurrecting a somewhat old thread, but I've got some information that might be useful for someone with the same issue as I'm dealing with right now. I'm in the exact same boat. My PTT stops working after 10-15 minutes. It will stop allowing voice, but static bursts still happen. The quick and on-the-spot fix is to pull the cable out of your amp, the one running to the IComm, and put it right back in. It 'resets' the IComm. It's slightly inconvenient, but works if you are in the middle of trooping. Jim has identified this down to a glitch that only affects a handful of IComm units sold. The long term fix is to contact Jim and send the unit back for the special software glitch fix. Hope this helps others. If you are having issues, Jim will take care of you As far as moisture goes, I've haven't experienced an issue with that so I can't comment on it.
  2. Thanks! As a HWT, I'll probably be using the bottom sets as they are the EXACT ones pictured in the CRL lol. I wish I would have found them before I commissioned the top sets. Just a quick clarification just so I know for future reference in case a Sandy is in my future. Since the bottom sets are replica leather MP40 pouches, would they at least be MEPD Police Officer approved? EDIT: I'm going to pop a thread on FISD for the HWT's that lurk there.
  3. I have all my pouches now. Here they are... The top were made by Rons Custom Leatherworks. The bottom sets are from The History Bunker. I have pictures of each set separately and of the backs if anyone is interested. The History Bumker said they have several in stock, and Ron is always willing to make more. Patrick
  4. There was a whole discussion on whitearmor about the designation being TD for HWT. It's just what was officially decided. If it makes you feel better, I'm going HWT but I know that Sandies will always rule . There seem to be a good many Sandies out there. I can't say that there are many HWT though. I like to be a little different.
  5. Ron's Custom Leatherwork. They're not bad, but was hoping them to be more like the pictures of the original ones. That's why I'm a little disappointed. It's good to know that they will work for initial acceptance. These are what is on the way lol. The only reason I didn't jump on the pouch runs here is that seem to closer resemble the stola wein (I think that's the one) version. I can tell that those guys are doing great work by the pictures and, of course, the responses from everyone here. The main difference seems to be no flap closures, D-rings, or small tool pouch. I guess it's to be expected as the stola wein version seems to be the most popular for the hips and dyed canvas for the shoulder. Looking at what I'm getting, they are a definite upgrade though lol. I really just need to complete this first build at this point. I'll worry about upgrades after I get my TD designation. Did you know that HWT get the TD designation instead of TK? See... close cousins lol.
  6. Not what I was hoping for. Oh well.... They are paid for and our mine once he finishes. More than what I had to begin with lol. I'll find a use for them while I continue to search for the perfect leather pouches. It's nothing against the people making them here. I'm just looking for as close as possible to original leather MP38/40's for hips and shoulders. We have nothing but pictures to go off of. They are not stained yet. I do think he nailed the small tool pouch though for the most part.
  7. I appreciate you looking out for me. He's making them for a decent price. $112 for both pouches and the small tool pouch.
  8. They're not permanent or anything. He's just making them also. I'll be able to move them around or just not use them. Here's the picture from the HWT CRL. The only thing is made clear is that the shoulder pouch is the only one that can be canvas, but it can be leather also. The hips must be leather.
  9. UPDATE Well.... we decided to use 9 1/4. The guy is using actual 9mm ammo to determine the height and width as best as he can. He also managed to find the correct stud for the flap closure. I asked for as close to original MP38/40 leather pouches as possible. I've got my fingers crossed he can do it considering we're going off pictures. They will include the tool pouch. He's only changing the back loops for up to 3 in belts. Two sets inbound in the next few weeks. One set will have the back loops straight and the other set angled. He's going to send me a photo or two once he has the first one built. I'll post for opinions.
  10. I've got a guy who offered to make replica leather pouches for me. I gave him all the details that I could to include some photos. He needs one piece of information and I can't seem to find it. What are the dimensions of a MP38/40 clip? I search and searched and had no luck finding it. He wants to, more or less, make blocks to ensure he is using the right dimensions on the pouch itself. Any help is appreciated!! Thanks! Patrick
  11. Thanks for the awesome reply Juan! I've gained even more respect for this community just from reading that That's not sarcasm. I'm actually being serious. As sad as it sounds, I'm sticking with HWT for my 'first' build. If I wanted to switch to a Sandy at this point, I would have to get another backpack lol. I went with a game-style pack in which Quartermaster nailed perfectly! Notice I said first build Thanks! Patrick
  12. Stupid question on the color of the stitching specifically towards leather pouches. Take for instance the rare leather German MP38/40 pouches. The stitching wasn't black like the leather. Looking at some originals, it may have been white or an off color. The Sandtrooper CRL doesn't specify the color of the stitching. The CRL of the HWT (pulled from Sandtroopers CRL) actually shows leather pouches with white stitching. The CRL for the HWT also does not specify color. Again... this is geared towards leather pouches. Is this just common practice/an unwritten rule or are leather pouches the exception? The reason I ask is I'm researching around for a leather worker who is willing to make replicas that are truly accurate as possible to the originals. No luck so far, but I just started searching.
  13. Nope. The company is http://www.zib-militaria.de They 'age' the canvas to make them look more authentic. Might be kinda of a waste considering they would have to be dyed black. It does, however, seem like the black dye would take better though... There is a custom leather shop a couple of miles down the road. I might give them a shout and see what they can do. I prefer the MP38/40 pouches vs the Spanish ones, and them being leather would even be more awesome. Did I overlook the thread about someone here making the MP38/40 leather pouches?
  14. I was looking at these MP40's. They're a tad more expensive than most I've seen. Something about the canvas that makes these look different...
  15. You know FISD sends HWT's this way when it comes to pouches, right? Something about being close cousins or something lol.... Anyways.... I'm looking around at some possible vendors that 'might' have some MP40 replicas for sale. So far, I've managed to find two. I've emailed to see if they have some in stock. Since I'm just waiting to hear back, I just wanted to make sure I go the correct route. So far, I've only been able to find canvas replicas. I've read that leather goes on the waist and canvas w/tool pouch on the shoulder. Does the waist HAVE to be leather? I'm thinking I might be able to scrounge up three canvas pouches (two for waist and one for shoulder). Is this acceptable? If it's acceptable for Sandies, then it's acceptable for HWT's. Thanks! Patrick
  16. Thanks for the replies guys! I'll tell you what. $300 sounds a lot better than what I was thinking it would be lol. Oh and TD-8266, I most definitely would be interested. It will have to wait until my mid-month payday. The military loves the first and 15th of every month lol. Thanks! Patrick
  17. Hi everyone! First time poster. Long time lurker. I have to say this upfront. I'm not working towards being a Sandy. I'm actually going for it's close cousin....Heavy Weapons Trooper. I'm hoping you guys won't bash me too bad lol. I'm about 50% done with my armor. Only two major parts to fit, and there's actually putting it together. I'm still debating on velcro vs snaps. Everyone seems to go with snaps, but I've seen some good reasons why people switched back to velcro. Quartermaster is handling the backpack. I'm still lurking for boots, neckseal, bucket fans/intercom system, pauldron, pouches, and most importantly a weapon. The pouches and weapon is what brings me here. I've got an idea on cost for pouches ($50-70 each) when I actually try to get on someone's list that is doing a run. What I'm wondering about is the weapon. I have no skills in building pretty much anything lol, and the armor itself is turning out to be quite challenging lol. With that said, I'm thinking I'm going to have to pay for, pretty much, a turn-key solution on a weapon (ready to troop out of the box). I know that really increases the cost alot, but I can deal with it as long as I plan it out financially. So... To sum up, what should I be planning to spend on a weapon? I have to say that the T-21 is calling out to me. Thanks for reading! Patrick
