@1970s: Very cool, you've found the same vintage seed trays I got on ebay!

Btw, the shells didn't have wires hanging out. There's possibly one shell that had one small bit of wire sticking out but that's it. Also they're bit more rounded off on the edges.

    Hey Stider,

Could we see pictures of your shells?

    thanks,

  2. Hey RoCKo,

I do find it interesting that they did put the time and  effort into plugging up the holes on the seed trays.   I agree - they probably did not use the contain I have show above - too much work needed.    But I think they purchased everything for the backpack at one hardware store - and the 2 containers for under the plungers were some chemical bottle that you would find in a hardware store.   Probably the chemical is no longer made or sold in that container anymore.   Another problem with the propane container above is it's metal making it heavy - particularly in the case when it would hang from the siphon.

  3. Hey RoCKo,

If your talking about the "ring" that is at the bottom of the container - it's not removable.   The container is all metal and would need some work smoothing out the seams to make it seamless.   Plus you need to get rid of the gas that's inside to bring down the weight.

  4. It's interesting that just about all the components of the backpack seem to come from a "Hardware" store + were fairly cheap (with the exception of the radio).    I wonder if they would have purchased the whole picnic set for one box - or were the boxes from that set available on their own back then?

  5. From this angle - it almost looks like a flat rectangular piece of plastic has been  applied to the bottom of the box that Strider has shown above with the lip from the Brexton picnic pack.   If so - i that might explain why the tape was added  because it kept falling off?   It would also explain why the lip is higher and more near the edges.    Just a thought.

  6. It looks to me that the box in the photo below matches more the Box #2 (which is the one on the right above) from the Brexton picnic set.   The edging on the bottom of the box seems to go closer to the corners than Box #1 has - it looks like to me that the photo of the sandtrooper backpack from the movie has the edging going more to the corners more than box #1 does.
