  1. Drilling through a small (maybe 1.5") fencepost one summer, I was using my hand on the other side to brace against the pressure of the drill. Hit a soft spot in the wood and the drill came out the other side of the wood, into my hand between the ring finger and pinky, and out the other side. It happened so fast that all I could do was stop the drill and look at what I had done. So now I am standing there, looking at this drillbit protruding from the back of my hand but I can't go anywhere because the other end of it is in the drill, which is through the other side of the wood. I realized I had to get the drill out (of both my hand and the wood) so without thinking I did what I normally do to get a stuck drill out: I squeezed the trigger and pulled. That was probably my 3rd or 4th mistake thus far into it. Hand parts went spewing from the spinning drill bit as it came out of the wood. I would say some skin, hand meat, and other parts I didn't want to take the time to identify. I left the drill on my porch and ran inside to clean and dress the wound, trailing BIG blood drops the whole way. It took about an hour before I came back outside to assess the situation. Picture this: mid-July in Myrtle Beach. HOT! Maybe high 90's approaching 100 in the direct sun. You know how drill bits sometimes fill up with wood in the grooves? (it was a big hole I was drilling. 3/4") Well I can tell you that meat and skin do the same thing. And being in the hot sun for an hour actually cooked the fleshy parts inside the drillbit, so when I pulled them out of the drillbit grooves it was like Greg Jerky. Now THAT was a dumb scar!
  2. I live in Myrtle Beach, SC, which is a major East Coast tourist destination. Here's the idea- If any of you are planning a vacation to the area and can bring your gear, give me a heads up before you come and we can meet up, suit up, and walk the beaches/boardwalk posing for pics and generally being the highlight of everyone else's vacation! At the very least, it could make some interesting additions to the "Chicks dig armor" thread!
  3. How bout simply "Icon"?
  4. Ok- Here it is as it stands right now. This is just a very rough around the edges version, but you can see the direction I am going with the center section. You can also see the coffee filter basket speaker!
  5. I thought about doing that, but didn't want to get confused with that chick from Grease! Greg French
  6. left my camera at work!
  7. Thanks. yes I have that one. I was just wondering if someone made a sticker of it to use, or when they say "the radio dial sticker" are they talking about a home made one.
  8. I was looking through the attic, and found a pic of me from the 70's with those socks on! Unfortunately, I also had those...Shorts... on! You know the ones...navy blue with the white piping. Yeah...that's right. I was awesome.
  9. I, too, wear a dive skin. I was already a scuba diver, though, so I had an extra in my closet. Wal Mart has the pants and long sleeve shirts right now. Good quality and cheap if you want 2 piece.
  10. You have a lovely voice. The kleenex was a nice touch!
  11. I see a lot of posts saying they used the radio dial sticker, but I can't seem to find where to get one. Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks
  12. I have one concern about the direction I am headed with mine. The middle section where the 2 switches and 2 smaller dials are I decided to tweak a bit. I found an old CB radio from the 70's in my garage. The faceplate had those exact switches on it, but more in the center. The left side had a "signal strength meter" which I thought was cool so I decided to leave it. There is still room for the 2 smaller dials on the right. Is it ok to change little things like that? Basically, it would look like an upgraded model of the victory. I know...I know...Pictures would help, right?
  13. I just wanted to say that building my pack has become my obsession lately. I am having so much fun "hunting and gathering" supplies from the garage and attic. My goal is to build it using as many found parts as I can. So far, the only part I have had to buy is the cistern. I have been documenting my progress with pictures, but want to wait until it is done before I post. The faceplate for the radio is mostly done, and the glue is drying. Waiting in the wings, I have all of the seed trays, an aluminum BS frame, faucet cover, radio box, wet wipes bottles, and mushroom caps. My coolest find was for the radio speaker area. Have you ever noticed that the inside of an automatic coffee maker drip basket is exactly the right size and has 16 triangular segments?
  14. Do you have pics? I was under the impression that the original WAS the aluminum BS frame, and they were already bent the right way. I know mine is. Maybe you have the wrong style? Aluminum is very hard to bend correctly. Not impossible, just difficult.
  15. Beautiful, man. Just beautiful.
  16. Like the improvements, but that leg position looks painful!
  17. Agreed. TK boots are great, and some of the most comfprtable footwear I have ever had the pleasure of putting my feet into. Their pauldrons are great, too; I have an orange one.
  18. I did the "Dirty/Oily" style and LOVE the way it finally came out. I was semi-addicted to weathering. I might have to add some sand to it now... Once my pack is done, that is..
  19. Very nice! I might try this. Are the long pieces pvc?
  20. Where is the "Like" button for these pics?
  21. Thanks. yeah, I knew it was not acceptable for cannon events or deployed status. I guess i just like lights! I am already TD- I just don't have a pack. I am getting done and taking lots of pics as I go, though. So far, I am $0 into it by using items from my garage/work/local recycle center.
  22. Howdy all. I am starting a pack, and really like some of the extras people have done to theirs like the plasma disc, radar/probe droid video, lighted radio dials, randomly placed lights, and so on. I know the CRL says no personal liberties such as led's, but I really like the "feel" of the additions people have done to these packs. For those who have added lighting effects to theirs, I was wondering when they are allowed to use them? I was planning on making mine so that if the effects are switched off, they will not be noticeable, but I don't want to have them on when I'm not supposed to. I was also wondering if it was ok to mix and match pack designs. Like, is it appropriate to add a pack 2-type hose to pack 3 for example? Thanks!
  23. Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is the BOMB at do-overs!
  24. Thanks! I KNEW I saw it somewhere...
