OK. I am painting my AP. Its a nightmare. I bought the Rustoleum professional high performance enamel sku number 7592. its been crap the entire time I have used it. I have seen it recommended here several times though.
The problem I am having is this. If I just paint the part without sanding then the paint looks great. Well it looks pretty good anyway. If I sand the part, which I have needed to do during assembly, that causes orange peel and deep scratch marks or crinkle where the sanding was.
I had to sand alot of my armor all over the place. So now just about every part looks like crap. I have resanded and tried another coat. Sometimes it looks better. Sometimes it looks worse! The second coat of paint 24 hrs later caused a crinkle effect and looks very bad.
I admit that I didnt use primer on almost every part. BUT, I did use primer on the chest and it looks pretty bad too. As I recall I used primer on my TE helmet and I had to repaint it a few times too. So I am not sure that my problem is caused by not primering.
When I can get this paint to go on right it looks great. BUT for the most part it looks terrible. I have painted many things with spray paint in the past, but I have never seen a paint act like this. Does this paint just suck? Has anyone else had a problem with this paint? It isnt even recommended for plastic, but everyone seems to be using it. Maybe its something I am not doing right.
Can anyone give me advice here? Does anyone know what I may be doing wrong? PLEASE HELP. MY ARMOR LOOKS LIKE SHITE!
I also should add that this armor is for the rose parade (hopefully) and will not be dirty....
