  1. I tried using some sharp, sharp scissors but it is leaving some uneven edges and will probably need some sanding. is there any easier way on trimming?

I bought a pair of scissors from Home Depot that are used for cutting vinyl/plastic siding. They cut through HIPS and ABS very easy, straight lines only. I use a small pair of scissors (like the one Bluey posted above) for cutting all the curved parts. Regardless of which tool I use I always follow up with sanding - I found that files work the best for rough edges, especially a curved sided filed which works wonders on curved parts. Then I use sand paper for the finishing to knock the hard edges off. Every time I do that, I put the pieces together and see if they fit nicely - if they don't I mark the areas that need to be removed and then trim that area (cut, filed or sanded). I think it is rather easy.

  2. Yeah, the link is sandtrooper's only sorry. <_<

Some people have been using these rubber gloves from home depot

Or search for black nomex flight gloves - I just recently bought another pair for around $20. Shop around for the best bargain on those because sometimes they can be listed as high as $40!

  3. Ha that is pretty funny because just last week I wrote about this same thing on my garrison board! Same conclusion as you - the large props were great at CV and it would be cool if someone in the US would do something like that!

Here are the ideas I had:

For TDs I like the road block intersection - thought about a landspeeder there and having an actual intersecton where people could walk through.

Problem for me is storage of the stuff. I do plan on making a moisture vaporator because that is easily disassembled for storage. Already got various pics and a drawn plan for that.

Also like the idea of a life size AT-ST - that would be great!

  4. I used 3 acrylic paints - tan (the most), dark brown (a little less), and black (very small amount). Mixed it all with water until it was somewhat runny (not thick like just acrylics) and it turned into a grayish liquid. Painted it on using a sponge type brush. Let it get slightly dry and started rubbing it off using a towel. I rubbed it off where I thought it would naturally get rubbed off. When it dried it turned color into a brownish color. (I think this is the very similar or the same way as pandatrooper)

I added some more layers (once it all dried) to some spots where dirt would normally collect. Now it looks like dried dirt.

  5. Usually don't see ads for troops here, but I thought I would throw this out in case no one saw or heard of this. It is a special event for the re-opening of the Star Tours ride at Disney World. Be nice to get a strong contingent of MEPD there, plus meet some more MEPD members!

    *******************************************************************************************

Disney has requested the 501st and Rebel Legion for a special event on May 20th, the first day of Star Wars Weekends. While the regular rules apply for Star Wars Weekends, there are modified rules for this one day to accommodate the special event.

The event is the grand opening of the new Star Tours Attraction.

Disney would like as many members as we can muster. Any 501st approved costume or Rebel Legion approved costume, including EU is invited. The minimum yearly troop requirement is suspended for this one day only.

I would like to get an idea of the number of potential attendees for the May 20th event. Please spread the word to any and all approved members of the 501st and Rebel Legion, worldwide. Right now, it looks like the report time will be 7:30 AM finishing around noon.

Please send an email to sww2011@starwarsweekends.com and include the following info:

    Full Name

    Membership number (or Rebel Legion)

    email address

    Costume

__ I will attend the May 20th event

Please, 1 email per member. Do not send multiples in the same email.

This is NOT the registration for the rest of Star Wars Weekends. This is just the special event. Your email address will be used to communicate important event information.
