  1. Here is Berlin's TD with backpack.
  2. Thanks for the hint on the wearing of the pack. I thought it was sitting kinda low. I submitted her pics fo approval this morning.
  3. Hey All, Here is Berlin's Sandtrooper with all the corrections & modifications. Also she is wearing the backpack for that "completed sandtrooper" look. She'll be wearing it this month at San Diego Comic Con (Fri 23,10)
  4. My Dad bought me an early Birthday gift yesterday. A new heat gun The next packs will have the bent frame. I wont start on those (mine & Berlin's new) til the seed trays are in stock.
  5. Here is Berlin's quick version of the sandtrooper backpack I built. Total cost under $50.00. I mostly used TK409's tutrial & a few other helpful hints I found here. Since the seed trays have been back order for some time now. I opted for a substitute of Sterlite boxes for the main boxes. Also I had to scratch build the radio box with household items. I'll replace as screen accurate items become available. All items used were found in my kitchen cupboard or bought at the .99 store & Lowes Hardware. The most expensive thing I bought was the two large "dials" on the radio box. They were $3.87 for the pair. I could not find the correct color of blue paint. I ended up using Krylon Bahama Sea. I found it at Walmart & had to modify it with adding grey & black to it to acheive a blueish grey. I used 3 diffrent colors of black paint gloss, satin, & flat. After I painted all parts their prospective colors I sanded litely. I then applied the "weathering" I sprayed Krylon Khaki into the groves & sanded off. Next I litley dusted with Kyrlon Almond & sanded off. This gave me my "sand everywhere" look.
  6. I've been collecting bottles, jars, caps & what ever caught my eye for the last two years. If it looked like it might look good for the sandtrooepr back pack I saved it. Now Im in the process of making a backpack for my wife's TD. With digging in the cubbard for square shapped "tupperware" boxes, picking up stuff at the .99 store & hitting Harbor Freight today. I got about $30 into my back pack, & add $10 for paint. I'll have a decent looking pack for the wife in a couple days.
  7. Im going to primer my plastic. Im ready to paint my back pack & will do so on Monday. I'll head to Lowes & look for the Slate Blue by Rustoleum Tomorrow. I sanded all my plastic parts with coarse sandpaper, & will primer, then paint.
  8. Yeah, we'll both be there on Friday the 23rd. Hopefully I can get her approved or she'll (we'll) be standing off to the side of the 501st booth
  9. Here's a quick "helpful tip" As I was getting her dressed for the pics I relized I forgot to weather her boots. So I threw some water on them & had my son sweep some dust on them. The effect was a perfect matching weather job with real dust.
  10. Thanks Eric, Hey you going to SDCC? The pics make the helmet look darker. But in person the helmet matches perfect. Next week Im starting on her backpack.
  11. She's not 501st yet. Awaiting approval. She goes by the callsign "Berlin" over in the JRS. We were stuck in limbo waiting on her chestbox to come in the mail. So she opted for a Sandtrooper after seeing Scooth & ABailey troop with me. Her helmet is a KEV's Ver1. The hovi's are mic tips. Her helmet is set up with fans & the dual mics. Very sturdy & looks awsome in real person. Her costume is an FX with the replacement helmet & correct ab plate & sniper knee. We did a test fitting to see how the costume wore on her. Yeah those theigh loops were accidently painted when I did the weathering. But they're comming off next week & being replaced with tab/snap straps. Hopfully I can get her approved before SDCC. You mean like the 2 MRCE's I have in my bedroom. I was lucky enough to get them on clearance back in 2007 for $80ea. But those are saved for my TK & TD. Got about 1hr worth of work left on my TK. The TD is a CAP-W from Scootch. The BFG's I made from modified a Hasbro & AK47. The E11 is a Hyperfirm.
  12. That was so funny. Can't wait to show my wife
  13. Here is my wife's armor fully weathered.
  14. Here's my wife's Sandtrooper. Next week I'll get started on her backpack
  15. Hey All, Here are some test fit pics of my wife "Berlin" in her new Sandtrooper costume. We wanted to see how everything fit her & what improvements I need to make. First off Im gonna get get rid of the belt loops on the theighs & go with a tab/snap system. Also need to add some foam to the inside of the theighs & forarms. (wife is supper skinny) I spent 12hrs yesterday painting, & sanding the whole costume. You can't tell from the pics, but there is alot of "sand" in the nooks & crannies. Next week I'll get started on her backpack. She'll wear it on Friday July 23,10 at San Diego Comic Con
  16. I weather my guns to just have the "worn metal" look. Paint a base coat of silver, then top off with flat black. I sand litly with fine sandpaper hitting the edges where I want the silver to show through. Not too crazy about this sand or dirt on the weapon, but to each his own.
  17. Hey All, Well Im pretty good at prop making & weathering my blasters & large guns. So I took on the challenge today to weather my wifes TD. I started with the legs & arms. I decided to go with the colors of spray paint that the original owner used to weather the TD. I used Krylon, Khaki & Almond. I had my wife take a few pics during the process. I started with covering the entire piece I was working on in the Khaki. About 15min later I sanded all the paint off. The Khaki stayed in the dings & scratches. Looked good, but was the color of moist mud. I washed with warm water & dish soap, dried & I was ready to paint the next coat. Now I gently sprayed a lite coat of the Almond. Let dry & sanded off. The end result was a very realistic looking sand paint job. All the pieces came out awsome. But the torso from the original weathering was too dark. So I took some coarse sand paper & began the job of taking down the old paint. I managed to get it matching the new weather job perfect. Finished it off with fine sandpaper. Just a lite sand job on the helmet & now the whole suit matches. It took me 12hrs straight to do the weathering. It was a nice day & I got sunburned from being outside for so long. But I guess if your gonna be a sandtrooper, your gonna have to get used to the sun. I'll take pics tomorrow. I wanna go to the fabric store & buy some beige colored fabric to use as a backdrop for the pics.
  18. My wife "Berlin" will have her completed Sandie shortly. I just need to weather a few parts.
  19. Thanks for the name change. I was looking for the "contact us" to request the name change. Im known as Chunk on all the forums JRS, FISD, Imperial Officers & a few others I've signed up on. My wife's armor came today. She & I were a lil bummed The guy I boght it from had pictures of an awsome weathered TD. I contacted him quickly & we agreed on a total price. But he decided to start painting the suit white. All that is left of the original weahering is the helmet, & lower body(front & back). Now I have to try & match the weathering.
  20. Last week there was an awsome completed TD set of armor for sale on the main boards. I was lucky enough to buy it... Or so I thought. The guy posted pictures of a weathered suit for sale. I spoke with him very quickly & we agreed on a total price. But then he started to paint the suit white I told him to stop! We wanted the suit just as it was in the pictures. Well it came today Seems the helmet & the lower body (front & back) are all thats left from the original weathering job. I've been reading on here about lots of peoples weathering techniqes. But alot of peoples pictures are no longer up. The weathering looks to be of light brown spray paint. I was going to attempt to replicate a matching weathering. But if not. Im gonna turn everyone here to help me out.
  21. Hello, Im Chunk TI2493 from the Jolly Roger Squadron. I just purchaced a completed sandtrooper costume from a MEPD member for my wife. I wanted to get to know everyone & get tips so when Im ready I can make my TD.
