  1. Awwwwwwwwwwwwww!! Congrats Juan!!
  2. I was considering getting one of the Master Replicas TK helmets and turning it into a Bears helmet. Got the helmet but decided to go another route with it (not done yet).
  3. I recently changed the whole setup in my lid. I had a halo (like what's in a construction helmet) and I switched to padding. I bought a baseball helmet and used the padding from that. I't s a little more snug than I'm used to and it took some time to get the positioning right but I'm happy with it. A little spray adhesive and it's not going anywhere.
  4. AWWWWWW!! I was fine with this thread until pictures started accompanying the stories.
  5. That's what I did . Sometimes shelling out a little bit of cash is worth avoiding the headache.
  6. That's awesome Mike!! Let me know when you can build my backpack, put all those electronics on it, and send it out to me??
  7. Best advice I got when starting my AP was when you get frustrated (and you probably will) just walk away and come back to it later. Once everything is done you'll forget all the little things that gave you headaches. Good luck!
  8. That's the lighting. It's basically the color of... well... sand. Couple layers of clear coat solve the rain problem. Everyone has their approach to weathering but I don't think there is one "right" way to do it. It's all about preference. What fun would it be if we all did the same thing and all looked the same?
  9. Pat, Mine is weathered with just fullers earth. This is another easy option if paint isn't for you. Mike, Lookin' good!
  10. Personally I kind of like the brown shoes. I think they're appropriate for sand/dirt environments
  11. I wanted that same look for mine ( the dusty/sandy approach) not so much clumps of dirt. I used only fullers earth and I am really happy with how it turned out. It was time consuming but not difficult. Starting was the hardest part. For some reason I was worried about ruining the whole thing even though I knew it would come off easily. Like Nol said pick up a piece and go!
  12. I got one for Christmas as well. I'm happy with my AP Bucket so I decided to give it to a friend of mine who is an artist and see what he can do with it. A while ago I showed him pictures of the TK Helmet exhibit and he said it would be fun to do something like that. He's a talented artist so I'm excited to see what he does with it.
  13. No it's freestanding. It came with a flat metal stand that has a rod that goes into the bottom of the foot of the mannequin that holds it upright. Still, just to play it on the safe side I display it in a corner. In my opinion the $55 is worth it so you can put your BFG with the suit. That's the only downside about this one. I can cram the E-11 into the hand but it's fallen out and I'd rather it stay on display up on the wall vs ending up on the floor occasionally. It's nice when people come over and they come into my office and do a double take when they see what's watching over the room.
  14. I've got A DLT-19 as well as An E-11 and love them both. I wouldn't change anything about the way they're made.
  15. I felt the same way Mike! I didn't want to put all this time into my suit and have it sit in a trunk. I found one for $155 shipped @ http://www.mannequinhub.com/full-body-abstract-male-mannequin-m-fg-blk.html I have the same problem that the boots won't go on and my shin pieces wont close but it is free standing and works great for what I wanted.
  16. I'll send it out as soon as you're done with my scrimshaw piece.
  17. Hey! I thought you weren't supposed to open gifts before Christmas! Who am I kidding, I'm the worst about that . My family added to my Kotobukiya collection as well as, this piece from Gentle Giant that I've wanted since the first time I saw it.
  18. Sorry Ajax, I didn't know you were on here. Does this mean you might come play in the dirt?
  19. You can, in fact rent a car in one state and drop it off in another but as Ken said you will be paying extra for it. As for the hotel/motel situation if you stay close to the Interstate with well known companies you should be fine. When traveling I personally don't stay at places that have direct access to the rooms from outside (i.e. you have to go through a lobby to get to elevators to get to the rooms). That's just my preference though. The trip is doable but that's a lot of time in the car. If you like road trips, it'll probably be a good time, if you prefer getting to your destination and spending time there my suggestion would be to fly. Either way, with three weeks you'll have time to do a little of everything.
  20. Lookin' Good! I like your suspender holders in the background.
  21. *Edit* Now you can actually see the picture. I don't know why the first time it was downloaded it was so small.
