Just thought I'd post a preview of my latest project in progress: a 3D model of the Shore trooper heavy blaster from Rogue One.
This has been modelled by myself from photos I took of the real prop at Celebration Europe earlier this year.
It's still not perfectly how I would like it. I can see errors. But l think it's probably 95% there.
Comments welcome.
Admin feel free to move/edit this thread if you think it's in the wrong place.

Still looking?

Very nice. Pack #5 looks great.

That and the paint is hard to wash off your armour :-)
-
Decals are accepted for basic 501st approval. The MEPD requires "hand painted" for deployment. Although I don't see the difference between using a paint effect decal and painting in a template.
-
Great stuff! Will you build an Android version too?

Thanks for the review and for all the positive comments. I'll endeavour to get the paint mods done this weekend and hopefully have everything buttoned up for next week.

If we could identify the variant used for the application easier to figure out, other than opening each thread and going "Nope, not the trooper I was looking for."; that would be a great upgrade. To clarify, I do not think it should be so simple as a "click me for trooper type x" search, but some way to perhaps do a filtered search by those that are SWAT deployed by the TD being emulated would be a good launching point for those of us researching a build.
Actually, it would be great if it were *that* easy. Especially since 75% of the SWAT impressions are "Road block captain" it can be like looking for a needle in a haystack.

That blaster looks suspiciously like a Hasbro conversion ... just sayin

Thanks for using my build as a reference. It's a real compliment. Drop me a line, Ryan. I think I might be able to help you out if your tired of chopping your own hands off.

Please see the sales thread linked in my signature.

What I'd like to see would be a clear mention of which trooper is being emulated in the approval thread titles. That way its easy to quickly search for others who have attempted and completed a particular impression.

Understood. I regret the use of the word as it seems to have unfortunately distracted from my initial point which is that the community needs clarity.
-
To me it is clear from the level of confusion that this spin-off group is generating that the MEPD should just sever the link. I share Lee's sentiments that this group really adds nothing to the community and merely muddies the waters. I wish them luck but I for one will not be seeking their dubious approval on the accuracy of my armour, my pack, or my blaster.

Interesting technique. Will look forward to seeing it finished.

You ask ... we deliver:
Thanks for all the positive comments guys. More parts on the way.

Looks like a good start. Just a note if you're after accuracy: the front part of the stock is squarer (to match the shape of the tang and receiver) than the rear which is more ovalised, if that makes sense.
-
Just a note about accuracy: I saw you make reference to two "chisel" marks on the receiver underneath the bolt carrier. In actual fact these marks are détents for the safety bar slide that was present on the original Lewis gun and which are clearly absent from the Lewis that Machine et al inspected.

Wow ... just wow
